Isn't dry food with wheat and corn gluten meal bad? I have always heard a dry food should not have corn, gluten, wheat or soy in it.

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

Corn Gluten and corn can serve a purpose in a DRY food... they adjust the ph to a more UTI friendly zone in a poultry based food... I prefer if a food has it that it has two Meats prior and really prefer it be like 5th or 6th ingrediant.. Corn gluten meal is 10-25% more digestable than corn
Wheat is actually 2nd in digestabilty of the grains but number 2 in allergens as far as food and cat s go
Soy is the Top allergen in cat food ingrediants and is hard to digest

Wheat gluten is not good for dogs.
It causes skin problems, and other illnesses. So, no, it's not infected, but in the long run, your dog will get just as sick. Switch to a better brand. Look into Innova, California Natural, Artemis, Wellness and Canidae. All are great, all have websites. As to vomiting and peeing a lot. If the puppy doesn't have shots or the puppy is under 5 pounds, go to the vet just to be safe. If it's an older/bigger pup, wait 24 hours and see if it gets worse. |

You do know this is a cat forum, right? And he was asking about wheat and corn gluten being bad for CATS?
|
and the OP doesn't say anything about vomiting or peeing a lot? The OP asked a very simple question...

It would be a problem if there were a corn allergy.

As I understand it, corn gluten meal is the protein part of corn, so it is a highly concentrated grain protein. I think it gets a bad rap from people who prefer their carnivorous cat's protein comes from animal sources (clearly identified animal sources).

I can see the purpose corn gluten meal would provide especially in rx foods but not in a regular diet. Yes corn has protein but is it a complete protein? I don't know but i would guess not. I've read that corn isn't as allergenic as wheat but there is still the potential. So that is why i try to avoid it. I cant with my crf cat unfortunately.

Crf cats are another that corn gluten can help as it aids in the % balance of many minerals... In five years working for a pet food company I saw only a handful of blood tests showing corn allergies... Wheat and soy were on nearly everyone.
Corn gluten should NOT ever be the primary protein
