I was using linux now I'm on windows and it doesn't do it!! That was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen!!! I thought i was going crazy

Your actual keyboard is fine. What happened is likely that your default layout got switched - to what, I have no clue. When you boot back into linux (mint still, correct?) go to your settings > keyboard. Check the layout... yes, I'm aware you'll probably find a list of everything imaginable in there. Try to find what matches up closely to what you're using and select it. Baring that something like Generic 105 (etc) key may work.

Do post back if it was on something weird. And if that doesn't fix it.

The other possibility is that if you updated lately (which you do need to do from time to time) that something might have changed your locale and caused a keyboard layout switch.

(I had a perl update months ago that wiped out my locale settings, I had to go in and fix them)

I'm really curious what could cause such a drastic change in layout that it did that on here.

Okay I went to settings>keyboard and then layout and clicked reset to defaults and yayyyy It's fixed!!!!!!
It did change when I reset it, so it wasn't on the default...

Thanks so much for suggesting that

Before I had this problem I was having issues with the languages, I sometimes type in Spanish and Bulgarian and the little indicator that I can click to make it change language had magically disappeared. And, on the keyboard layout those languages weren't there, the only language that was there was Irish, which i didn't even know was a language but I had never put it there

Did you see what it had switched to? That might give a clue as to what happened.

Once several years ago, I was cleaning my desk off and bumped my keyboard. I have no idea what I pushed, but it switched my keyboard to Korean (this was on windows). It was amusing for all of 10 seconds since I was chatting with a couple people at the time.

Oh now that you mentioned that I remembered that I dropped my laptop earlier this morning
I was really sleepy, just waking up and my arm must have been still sleeping cuz i couldn't even hold the laptop properly. And then I went back to sleep so I forgot all about it

LOL How could you have forgotten that? I would have instantly woke up in a panic.

Hopefully that's all it was, that you bumped something. If it does anything funky input wise again, check the settings.
