Oh my goodness, I'm into a new drink I found at the health food store. Hemp milk!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp_milk It reminds me of soy milk

I had no idea the cannabis plant could be made into a drink! I was pleasantly surprised to read the Wikipedia page saying it has omega fatty acids and other goodies for the body.

My mother was and still is very "Nancy Reagan" (e.g., "Just Say No") and I picked up that inclination from her. No, I'm not part of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, although I guess I could be. But knowing the hemp plant can help my health and the fact that I'm drinking hemp milk, it's a little tough for me to admit I might need to modify my views on hemp.

Odd turn of events, that's for sure.

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
There are several uses for hemp, and several varieties (I think), of which only the one is 'smokable' ... I don't use that kind either... coming from the same period of hearing Nancy Reagan talk about it, and seeing my sister get shoved into rehab for abuse and addiction of various illicit drugs. I have friends who smoke it for medicinal purposes and I get that it helps. If others want to smoke it, fine with me, just don't offer me any.

That said, there are many other things hemp plants are good for. hemp rope is very good rope to use for things... and hemp milk is decent. There are a lot of alternative milks out there...

I use hemp seeds all the time! We always have some in the fridge, and add them to salads, stews, bread etc. Great healthy little addition. Hemp milk is tasty too - I drink a lot of soy and other alternatives, and it's nice to have a variety.

I'm quite surprised to hear that Nancy Reagan's campaign was actually sucessful in some cases! We just made fun of her.

Hemp's been used - probably since time began - for rope, paper, textiles, for oil, in food (the seeds, as pointed out), and as medicine.

I've read a lot of raw vegan bloggers express their frustration that they can't use hemp seeds in their recipes since it's illegal! Apparently they can be used a lot like flax seeds to make raw "bread" I believe.

Yes, the type I buy at the health food store is probably made from low THC hemp seeds. I wonder what my mom would say to this.

Edit: Ok this link is downright awesome - It talks about the brand of hemp milk I buy saying the seeds are industrial hemp seeds from Canada and contain less than 1 percent THC. It also says hemp foods are growing at a rate of 35 to 50 percent a year and that the DEA tried to ban all hemp foods prior to 2007. And now I read Republican Ron Paul and Democrat Barney Frank are working together to promote industrial hemp. Oh my.
Well, that's how it should be. Republicans and Democrats working together.

This article mentions a flax comparison as well as "bread". But it also says stores sell whole hemp seeds
..... Anyway, I just hope nobody takes away my hemp milk!! Especially the DEA. If hemp foods indeed contain all these nutritional wonders as claimed (amino acids, EFA's, vitamin D2, B12, etc.), then this is a choice I do not want taken away from me by the government.

I'm not sure what the deal is, I think it's just that they don't sell the seeds raw because then you can grow them
Or now that I think of it, I'm not sure if the blog I read was from the US, may have been a UK one.

I watched this documentary on A&E last night about marijuana.. it was interesting. There are cannabis chefs out there that make food out of it. All kinds of food. It was really interesting. All items were sold to pharmacies and such for medicinal purposes as well.
