When I'm with the cats, I have to remember that so much of the body language I'm used to and do automatically has a different meaning to a cat!
Eg:
Back to cat: non-threatening, trusting instead of hostile, indifferent.
Smile: might be seen as threatening for showing teeth.
Hand-wave: might be seen as threatening instead of friendly.
Stand up tall: threatening
Stare: threatening
Slow blinking: friendly instead of scornful
Crouching: approachable
And so much you expect automatically from a person comes in a different form in a cat!
Eg:
Happy to see you
Thankful for treat
Excited
Could you guys please add to my beginner's list?
