One Eye Reflects Red The Other Reflects Green

Sort of an odd question, but I figured this would be the place to ask

My cat Zazzles eyes have started to reflect two different colours in pictures. This happens no matter what angle I take her picture from.

Does anyone know what causes this?

(not the best picture, but it's the clearest shot of the two different reflections)

Are both of her eyes the same color? Blue eyes usually reflect red while the yellows and greens reflect back green

My advise is to ask your Vet. I know that in humans, that irregularity in photos taken of the eyes can indicate a tumour, either cancerous or non cancerous. The flash picks up the irregularity behind the eye. I'm not sure about cats, it could be absolutely normal, but if it were one of mine, I'd be straight to the vet to get it checked out as it's not worth the risk.

I will definately be going to the vet before work this morning.

I figured I'd ask here first because I realize that I get overly concerned about every little thing that happens to her which almost always turns out to be nothing. She's the first kitten I've had since I was 12, so it's a new experience having a tiny and needy little furball.

Does your cat have 2 different color eyes? My cats pictures come out with their eyes glowing green, yellow, red, once orange. But both eyes were glowing the same color. Same with the way the lights in the house hit their eyes, they'll glow the same came.

Her eyes probably aren't their adult color yet. Smudge RB's did this before we even knew he had 2 different colored eyes!

This cat is pointed so should always have blue eyes qand blue eyes usually reflect red.

I did not know about the phenomenon autumnblueangel writes about, but if this is indeed a new thing I is probabl;y a good idea to have it checked out.

I know, the pointedness is puzzling. So I would get it checked out, but I really think there's a white spotting gene in there that's giving the cat the green eye. (It's always fun to speculate on cat genetics, LOL.)

So I showed the picture to the vet. She's never really seen that happen before in a cat that has the same colour eyes. She said it could be nothing but it's a 50/50 chance.

So I've scheduled an appointment to get her checked out.

Ugh. I'm going to be so worried until I know what it is. And I know the things I imagine could happen are 10x worse than what it could turn out to be and yet I still can't help it. She's my little baby.

I'm glad the vet is checking her out. A couple questions: 1) how old is she, and 2) is she purebred with papers?

I've heard about a case like this. Someone noticed her cat's eyes had started to reflect different in pictures and it turned out to be early state of cataract.

I read a webpage where they talked about a cat who had two different "types" of blue eyes and even though both eyes looked the same in normal conditions, one eye reflected green while the other reflected red.

White spotting does not add pigment, it only makes it absent in certain cats, absent from birth. So that would not make it add up either.

I looked at the messybeast page on white spotting/eye colour before I made my first post in this thread to see if I could find an explanation there too, but no. There is no explanation by the pic of the cat with two different eye colours on messybeast, they could've been like that from birth. Also, there is no indication this cat is pointed under the white coat.

Any update to this? Would be interesting to hear what it was, if it was something.
