That might take care of odor, but it wouldn't remove the actual mold and mildew, you know? I spent this morning shoving and pulling the couch out of my apartment. It is now residing, tipped sideways, on my porch until a friend can haul it away.Originally Posted by LDG
To fix the odor of the couch for now, you could ask for Nok Out.
I had to get it out of here, Queen Eva didn't sneeze at all while she was at the hospital so it is clearly something here that she is having an allergic reaction to.
She hasn't sneezed since she's been home, now that the couch is out of here.
I've looked and looked and looked at futons. The nice ones are as expensive as some couches, and I don't think I have the patience for a cheap one. Though, now that the smelly couch is out, and the one I've ordered won't be here for three months, I may change my mind.Originally Posted by catsallaround
As a temporary thing you may want to look at a brand new futon/click clack if your looking for seating and could use it in another room down road. I picked up one and stuck padding on the slats so its really comfortable now and was about 100 total
....on the other hand, my apartment is tiny. There would be no place to put the stupid thing after the couch comes.
Thanks for your ideas! I'm too afraid of the "out of the pot into the fire" syndrome to buy used furniture I'm afraid. I don't mind donated furniture from someone I know, and whose house I have been in, so I know their hygiene habits. In fact every stick of furniture in this apartment except my bed is hand me downs.Originally Posted by MargeCat
Woudl you be willing to check your local Goodwill, if they carry furniture (some no longer do)? I've bought decent armchairs from there, for less than $10 each. I'm not crazy about used upholstered furniture, but they do sanitize it, according to the tags. Of course, you need to be able to get it home, but maybe a cheap sofa from there could tide you over until you can afford a brand-new one? Also, if you need transport, do you have a Home Depot/Lowe's nearby? We've rented a pick-up truck from HD, for about $20 for (I think) 90 minutes or so.
!
But the idea of ending up with something that has been peed on, vomited on, or worse...... fleas...dirt...I just can't do it.
