What's on your Christmas List?

Thread Starter
People who I exchange gifts with keep asking me what I want or need, for Christmas. I keep telling them the same things I told them for my birthday. I want and need gift certificates to the vet, the feed store and Lowes. All cat related expenses.

What I really need, desperately, is a new couch. No one is going to be able to give me that, of course, (unless they have a decent old one to donate).

But if I could get ahead on some of these other expenses, such as vet bills and cat food expenses, maybe I could manage to get a couch. My couch smells of mold and mildew and it's getting very bad, I have GOT to get it out of here.

So, now, since no one was taking me seriously about the vet and feed store gift certificates I am now explaining to them why those things would help me, because then I could get a couch.

I don't need anything for myself. I don't need gloves, or scarves, or socks or slippers, or Christmas decorations. Or stationery or calendars or even tools. I need a couch.

If I could get vet gift certificates it would definitely be all I would ask for too

To fix the odor of the couch for now, you could ask for Nok Out.

Our wish list is basically the same. Vet vouchers. Since that's where we get their cat food, that's basically it. But we could really use some help paying for the ferals to be speutered - we've got four new ones in just the last week. And I expect a few more will turn up now that it's getting cold and the park is empty (less trash and no one else around feeding them).

I could use some new clothes. I've lost a lot of weight, and everything's hanging on me. I gave away all my "thin" clothes summer of 2009 when we "cleaned house," because they hadn't fit for years, and I figured they'd never fit again.

All I wanted for Christmas was Lynxx to be ok. Since he died last Saturday, I will never get my Christmas gift.

I told everyone I don't want anything. I don't even want to celebrate. I've got the decorations and tree up, because the kittens need to have first Christmas. But if they weren't here, I wouldn't have decorated.

I did make sure the kittens got something. I got them a tent with all kinds of tunnels attached to it, for them to play in. It will go in the living room when the tree comes down. It says it's for kids, but I think cats could enjoy it to. It was only $19.99.

A new car. Mine was totaled in an accident last week.

Glad you are alright I hope you find the right car

On the top of my list is a puppy for my oldest daughter. We lost our sweet Rosie 2 weeks ago. She was 13. My daughter is a special needs girl. She really needs a puppy to take care of and to bond with. Rosie was really the only friend she has ever had. I have been to the SPCA in the city. a local humane society there are no puppies anywhere. Well there is some great danes for $1000 a little too much for me. Any other time the bulliten boards are full of mixed breed dogs.

Dishes & Glasses! I'm down to two-three drinking glasses, 2 cereal bowls and 3 plastic plates Not good considering my sister and her kids are always over!

When I went through my divorce a while back, I was broke when I moved, so I just got a set of plates/bowls/cups from Walmart. Needless to say, those cheap things didn't last at all!

During "Cycber Monday" I found some dishes I really loved online at half price...I could just kick myself for not ordering them! Ugg! I might look for coupon codes and try again soon! I'm super picky, so it took me ages to find some I really liked, the only issue was I was hesitant to order them online since I couldn't inspect them for cracks/breaks, but now that I've read reviews, I really wish I had got them! Oh well. At the end of the day it's really not a big deal, I have soo many things to be greatful for

There's nothing I really really need, since DH and I are in a position to provide those things for ourselves, thank goodness (we have been over our finances and know what to do if one of us loses our job, though).

The big item I have on my list is called an Agbay. It's a cake leveling tool. http://www.agbayproducts.com/

I'm seriously in love with it, and have been asking for over a year for DH to get it for me for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

I'm another one that really doesn't need anything. For the sake of giving others some simple stuff I said more jewelry wire, beads, and such. I pointed out some nice sweaters in the Black Friday fliers for stores and told people my size so they'd have a cheap alternative.

One thing I would really like to have.. A snap on case for the back of my phone to keep the battery cover from popping off when I stick in it my tighter jeans pocket. Except my phone is too new and I don't know if there's even anything to fit it yet.

StarryEyedTiGeR - You should have hit up garage sales over the summer and early fall. Often you can find people selling complete, and decent, sets because either a) they got them as a gift and didn't need them or b) they've bought all new dishware.
But, I'm one that can't warrant spending a lot of something that will eventually be broken.

As a temporary thing you may want to look at a brand new futon/click clack if your looking for seating and could use it in another room down road. I picked up one and stuck padding on the slats so its really comfortable now and was about 100 total

I would love to get our central heating fixed but its one of those impossible wishes
Same for my inlaws finally deciding a white d inlaw is NOT the end of the world!!!!
My only serious thing would be gift card/money to use on ebay for pet related discounts/cards. My family has this great you cant give CASH!!!! so i return alot of things i dont need... no hard feelings tho lol

We're at the stage in our lives where we don't really needanything, either. Of course, that doesn't stop DH from asking for toys (the toys of his youth, making them vintage ). I'd be happy with gift certificates to Hobby Lobby or movie passes.

I am also the guy who has everything, so I really don't need anything.

But I'd be very happy if the Mrs. got me another watch. I already sent her a list of about 5 or 6 that I've had my eye on.
I did make a list as requested. But the things I really want no list can give me. Oh well, the holidays are still a lot of fun. I love giving gifts to others.

For some reason, this made me laugh. Actually cheered me up on a bad day. I bet she'll take the hint and you'll get one of those watches. Women are smart.

All I wanted from DH was the make-up kit that is available for an additional cost if you buy Estee Lauder perfume. And I have it on good authority that I will get it, because I bought my mom a gift set of Beautiful perfume and picked up the make-up kit for DH to give me. It's sitting in my closet right now.

I already got my gift; Lily is out of the hospital and doing great! I did want new sofas a few weeks ago, but instead we paid the hospital bills. Our old sofas will do fine right now.

Woudl you be willing to check your local Goodwill, if they carry furniture (some no longer do)? I've bought decent armchairs from there, for less than $10 each. I'm not crazy about used upholstered furniture, but they do sanitize it, according to the tags. Of course, you need to be able to get it home, but maybe a cheap sofa from there could tide you over until you can afford a brand-new one? Also, if you need transport, do you have a Home Depot/Lowe's nearby? We've rented a pick-up truck from HD, for about $20 for (I think) 90 minutes or so.

I hope you get all you need for Christmas, and have a WONDERFUL Christmas, and happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!!!

There's nothing I really need either. I told Dana not to bother shopping for me, but he insists anyway. He is a VERY thoughtful shopper and always gives me the most wonderful gifts.

Since I can never think of anything when put on the spot, I found a site that you can keep track of a Christmas/birthday/wish/etc list and send to people. I only sent it to my hubby, since he always asks what I want for Xmas. I don't expect everything on it, but as I think of things I add them. So far, I have on it:

An aerial hoop and rigging.
A 45mm X-pole (for pole fitness)
Chrome platform pole shoes
An eBooks gift card for the nook
The book on Dewey the Library Cat
A white gold and diamond cat necklace from Kay's (have a different one from another year
A 12ga bolt action Marlin goose gun with 36" barrel (on its way)
Andes mints for a stocking stuffer

It started out with just three things and grew. I told him to get whatever off of it, there's always birthday and anniversary in Feb

However much he spends on me, he wants me to spend that much paying on his Matco tool bill for work.

That might take care of odor, but it wouldn't remove the actual mold and mildew, you know? I spent this morning shoving and pulling the couch out of my apartment. It is now residing, tipped sideways, on my porch until a friend can haul it away.

I had to get it out of here, Queen Eva didn't sneeze at all while she was at the hospital so it is clearly something here that she is having an allergic reaction to.

She hasn't sneezed since she's been home, now that the couch is out of here.

I've looked and looked and looked at futons. The nice ones are as expensive as some couches, and I don't think I have the patience for a cheap one. Though, now that the smelly couch is out, and the one I've ordered won't be here for three months, I may change my mind.

....on the other hand, my apartment is tiny. There would be no place to put the stupid thing after the couch comes.

Thanks for your ideas! I'm too afraid of the "out of the pot into the fire" syndrome to buy used furniture I'm afraid. I don't mind donated furniture from someone I know, and whose house I have been in, so I know their hygiene habits. In fact every stick of furniture in this apartment except my bed is hand me downs.

But the idea of ending up with something that has been peed on, vomited on, or worse...... fleas...dirt...I just can't do it.

I really don't need anything, but there are a few things I'd like to have:

the catgoyle from Toscano's
the double trouble gargoyle from Toscano's
Alton Brown's The Middle Years book
Stephen King's Full Dark No Stars book
King Arthur cookbook
Ina Garten's How Easy is That Cookbook
1 Fiesta placesetting (Paprika)
Gift Certificate to King Arthur
Gift Certificate to itunes
And some little odds and ends types of things

I'll be happy with whatever

I want bills all paid off. LOL but since our biggest one wont get paid till tax season..darn Snap On. But the little stuff is gift certificats for Tractor Supply where I get dog and cat food, the cat tower I want to replace the old one from Wal-Mart, Wal Mart gift card or a Michaels gift card so I can get more yarn. Bf is on an anti yarn binge till I deplete my supply but he doesnt understand that just because I have so much doesnt mean I dont NEED more. lol This year I actually made sure to tell everyone NO B&BW stuff cuz I have a ton of it from the semi annual sale which is the only time I can get my scent and bf got a few texts on Black Friday about which scent I like and he felt like a jerk because he had to be the one to say that I already stocked up and my scent is only available twice a year around here. I did tell him though to drop the hint about Walmart or Michaels....

I have a yarn addiction btw. Sorry it overloads my brain thinking about all the pretty colors and textures and the different stuff I can make and give away since I have a problem of not being able to make anything for myself.

When DH and I merged households, we also bought a couch, but we had to wait 6-8 wks before it was delivered. So what did we do? Used camp chairs.

While it was VERY college-apartment-esque, it sufficed until we got our nice new couch. Might be something you can do in the interim.

You can get camp chairs for about $10-20, and most even have cup holders. lol

Here's an idea for those that can't think of anything they want, or know they have friends who can't afford things: ask for help on something you can't do or don't have time to do. A customer came into the store I work at yesterday to buy paint for her daughter's bedroom. It wasn't a color she wanted, but her daughter really wanted it. So while her daughter was away at a friends house for a weekend, she was going to paint her room as a surprise.

May sound weird, but sometimes giving your time to help someone can be the best gift of all.

That's a good idea Amy. Ann Landers and Dear Abby always recommend that, especially for elderly people and shut ins who don't really need "stuff".

Like someone else said, I would prefer cash, too, but some people don't like to give cash. Gift cards to places like walmart or the grocery store I use are helpful too.

I just don't want any more junk. I'd rather be given nothing than another scarf or Christmas decoration or "spoiled rotten cats live here" plaque.

I hate those spoiled rotten cats live here plaques. I throw them away as fast as I get them. My cats are NOT spoiled, the are loved and taken care of.
LOL, DH and I are probably the only people on here that actually NEED scarves and gloves . When we moved last March, one of our bags of winter stuff must have gotten mixed up with the stuff for goodwill because we can't find them anywhere. I was helping DH decorate outside last night and froze my butt off.

The only thing I would really want is a new cat tree. Our old one had to be retired (one kitty insisted on using it as a litter box) and it's now on the back porch for the barn cats. It has a few of those carpeted cubes so it gives them shelter and warmth, but now my indoor cats have nothing to climb...except the furniture and shelves.

There are a few odds and ends I would like to have, but we really don't exchange with anyone. No one can afford it right now, so that's fine with me.

Have you thought about making a day bed? You can probably get a twin bed frame at goodwill really cheap, and a mattress wouldn't be near as much as an actual couch. Throw lots of pillows on it, get a cheap comforter and, voila, couch AND guest bed. Just a thought. A friend of mine in college did that and the way she did it looked great and it very comfortable.

I had been wanting my own digital camera so I wouldn't have to borrow one - but now I'd love to be able to see straight.
