My holistic vet said the smellier the better, like Fancy Feast etc, we got something so cheap and by-product laden in pouches but at least she ate it. I'm pretty sure it was Special Kitty from WalMart. It worked when even homemade was refused. (((hugs)))
Tried Holistic Special Salmon and Shrimp ( he attacked that like it was the greatest thing on earth a few days back) Science Diet Optimal care Salmon entrÃ[emoji]169[/emoji]e (he attacked that one and their seafood entrÃ[emoji]169[/emoji]e as well Friday and Saturday), Hi-Tor and Performatrin Turkey...he licks his chops like he wants to eat but walks away. I just syringe-fed him some liquefied Hi-Tor.

Maybe some of the old-Fashioned Performatrin Chicken stew will work, if only for the gravy?

PS Scratch that idea - I opened the can presented it to him...he smelled in, stood up and was about to walk away again, with drool coming out of his mouth...

At this point, I would give him some Fancy Feast... Or friskies, or whatever he is crazy about... Yes, not optimum, but whatever he will eat, it is better then not eating... Right now it is important for him to eat...
Hiding doesn't worry me that much.... All my cats hide when they are not feeling well - that is not a sign of death - It is a sign of not feeling good... When Hope was sick from her IBS she hid for a solid two months - yes, I understand it is different... but it might not be the end yet...

I noticed yesterday that he drools after eating, is that of concern? Just now after he walked away from the Performatrin drool was dangling from his mouth. I wiped his chin and more drool was coming out...sigh...

Fried chicken...I read an article that said a cat can be fed pieces of fried chicken (minus the skin) to stimulate his appetite...I can try?

Sounds like nausea - ask your vet about pepcid - when I was giving Bugsy clavamox, my vet told me I could give 1/4 pill of pepcid ac (10mg) every 4 hours or so to help with nausea... (so he was getting 2.5 mg (make sure it is the pure famotidine))

That might be the reason why he is not eating by the way....

Yeah Famotidine is the antacid the Vet prescribed, 20mg tablets quartered...so I gave him 5mg this morning. Vet's office is closed on Sundays, I don't want to play doctors but...should I give him another one?

If he is drooling and not eating, I would... How often did the vet tell you to give?
I would give it about 1/2 hr before feeding time... Try getting some fancy feast for him - get some junk food - treats, etc... now you want him to eat... After he eats for a couple/few days, then you worry about quality.

One a day, and Sasha just vomited the food I syringe-fed him...I don't dare give him anything by mouth!

That just proved the point he has nausea... I would give him another pepcid - too bad you don't have the 10mg to give it 1/4, making it 2.5 mg... after 1/2 hour I would try to feed him again...

I do in fact...I might as well try that, 30 minutes after giving Sasha his antacid, he still raised his nose on the salmon food

try boiling some chicken breast, and offering it to him still warm - little shreds... A good blend diet of shredded chicken breast and cooked rice might work...

Here's a recipe for poaching chicken breasts (just use plain water and no herbs/spices) so you get a nice juicy breast

http://lowfatcooking.about.com/od/ch...hedchicken.htm

Also, on the feral board people seem to swear by Kentucky Fried Chicken (without skin, and without bone) being so tantalizing that it can lure ferals into traps. At this point, whatever kitty would like to eat would be fine, I think. I wouldn't worry about 'quality' right now, just calories.

Boiling a chicken breast. I also skinned and boned the thighs I used to make the "cat gravy" (I kept them in the fridge). Pulled my old meat grinder from the pantry and cleaned it. Knock on wood Sasha doesn't raise his nose on the chicken too...

Edit

Served Sasha some minced chicken with a bit of home made gravy warmed up... looked at it, smelled it... ignores it...sigh...

I know it's useless to say, but I hope you're able to eat and sleep, at least a bit, while you're being Sasha's strength now.

I took an Ativan (last evening) to take the edge off and it helped. I fixed the Futon with another comforter and brought pillows so Sasha would be nice and comfy. The futon is lower for Sasha to jump on and the big water fountain is right next to him if he gets thirsty.

Tiggy was real sweet too: spent part of the night in the bedroom with me and the other part on the Futon keeping Sasha company!

This morning, as I did my morning routine (clean the litter pans feed the cats, etc) Sasha came to greet me. He let me pet him, gave me a soft meow and went in the bedroom to pee on the plastic tarp.

He actually seemed to want food too, he followed me to the kitchenette, sat down and meowed again. I warmed up some of the liquefied Hi-Tor from the fridge, he looked interested, licked the top for a few seconds and walked away, he hopped back on the futon and laid down.

I was warming up some food for Tiggy, Wellness Salmon and Trout (I think) so I figured "why not?" I showed it to Sasha, he smelled it with interest, licked the top for maybe 15-30 seconds...then stopped. He turned his back on that food too.

I"ll give him his antacid and Sub Q, and hope for the best...

Edit

He took his antacid and Sub Q treatment without a fuss. I'll wait a bit before showing him food again...

Showed him the liquefied Hi-Tor again, dipped my finger in it, showed it to him...and he licked it off my finger without me forcing his mouth open. I did that three times and presented him the dish...he ate the liquefied Hi-Tor from the dish!
So he ate about 1 teaspoonful on his own. Not a lot, but it's a start!

Just spoke to the Vet..I feel I'm dying inside...from what I've described to him he feels (and Dr White agrees) that it's time. Poor Sasha has suffered enough...I can't look at him knowing what must be done...I just took another Ativan - and I hate taking that crap...I need to get a grip...but I can't stop crying...my little buddy's dying on me...
