First I spent an hour getting an MRI I thought I was going to freak out in that machine. Then I went to therapy and pushed myself too hard so I am hurting. And then I had some good news I signed up to become a volunteer at the humane society and next week I will pay my fee for a membership there and I petted some of the kitties one calico was kissing my fingers and grabbing at me trying to get me to stay. And two small tabby females were sticking their little paws out at me. I wanted to take them all home. How am I going to be able to handle volunteering without wanting to take them home.
They were all very pretty. I hope to be able to adopt atleast one or two one day. There was two large males and I wanted to take them home, they were both long hairs, and I know how hard it is to place them. One of the cats looked like it had a URI and it was in the same room as the others. So my question for that is can I carry that home to Pixie? Is there anything I need to watch for, for her safety?

I would want to bring them all home too. You sure have a good heart to do all this.

I have heard that those machines can freak people out. Dont' know if I could handle it.

Those little kitties need you so much. I am so glad you are doing this.

I've wondered that too. I've been wanting to volunteer, but I'm afraid to bring something home to Swanie and Cindy. I'll be interested to what everyone has to say about the possibility.

I break out into a cold sweat just thinking about getting an MRI. What do they do for claustrophobic people? I just don't think I could ever do it, especially if it lasted that long.

On the other hand, congrats on volunteering for the animals!

Congratulations on volunteering! You have a good heart, Tavia's Mom.

I've had several MRIs due to lower back issues and they are no fun! Thank goodness, I don't have claustrophobia. The MRIs for my lower back usually last about 45 minutes.....I just keep my eyes shut the whole time. And breathe. And breathe. If I open my eyes, the bottom of the machine is like an inch away from my nose! The constant knocking (to me) eventually starts to sound like some kind of rock music, so that doesn't bother me that much.

My brother is very claustrophobic and he can't even be in the open machines without flipping out.

When my husband volunteered at the shelter he would wear some old shoes that he kept in the shed the rest of the time. When he came back from the shelter he would take his shoes off before entering the house, would go straight to the bathroom, undress there, stick his clothes in the washing machine and take a shower himself.

After some time he started skipping that routine and wound up with a ringworm lesion on his skin. Fortunately he did not infect our own cats. After that he was more careful again.

Also our shelter insists your own cats should be up to date on their vaccinations and if you do take anything home anyway they will pay the vet bills.
