Hey guys,

Wanted to share with you my newest specail needs foster (I foster with Cats Cradle out of Harrisonburg Va). They're up for adoption if you know anyone interested

Higgins was found by a local feeding a colony on a gravel parking lot. It's unclear if he was born without his front paws, or suffered an accident. It appears he has lived outside all his life, however he is not feral. He was unneutered when he came to us, and hit and miss on the litter box. He has since been neutered and now uses the litter box. He never has sprayed. He's apx 5 years old. Has the typical unneutered male body type. Large head, neck, jaws and shoulders. Super sweet and wants loved all the time. He needs a home with mostly carpet. He can use the stairs. Gets along well with other cats and kittens. Pretty chill and laid back and somewhat talkative. He walks on his stumps, but when he stops, he either lays down, or balances on his hind feet.

Cerissa

Weebles was born in a barn with clear cerebral ataxia. She is aprx 4 months old. She stumbles when she walks. Clearly has depth perception problems, and when spooked will pin ball around her surroundings, sometimes dangerously. She is otherwise a healthy playful kitten. She's tested neg for FIV/FL, will be spayed before adoption, and fully vaccinated. She needs to be in a single level home, and carpet would be helpful. As she's gotten older, and more brave to walk around, her mobility and motor skills have improved. She loves attention and to be pet. She gets along with other cats and kittens. She uses the litter box. She loves watching the other kittens run and play. Sometimes she gets the kitten friskies and prances around as well.

those are some rare kitties, both because of their special needs and because they seem like sweet guys. i've never heard of cerebral ataxia, sounds like cerebral hypoplasia a bit. i certainly hope Higgins was born that way, i literally have nightmares about somebody mutilating a cat like this. that's wonderful they will both find good homes, and soon i bet! good luck.

Cerebral ataxia is also known as cerebral hypoplasia. I just know how to spell ataxia off the top of my head without looking it up
LOL

Aw, our little CH kitty just wobbled her way into my lap!

I couldn't look at the pictures of Higgins without crying. I hate that I think the worst of people, and I sure hope he was born that way, but .... I just can't help but cry.
for fostering these kitties, and for them to find their purrfect forever homes!

I recently read an article at Best Friends about a kitty without feet, and they got special socks for her that improved her ability to stand on her stumps.... let me see if I can find it.

Thanks for the video, what a real cuite Charlie Brown is. He's adapted very well to his shoes.

I tried the socks with the grippys made for small animals. He hated them. He did the "walk - shake - walk - shake - walk - shake etc" Then he spent the next 30 mins tearing them off. As long as he has carpet, and a food bowl low enough to eat laying down, he really gets along well. I'm willing to try anything that will help him along though.

Yeah, I can see that. Some cats take right away to things like clothes or leashes. We tried leashes on ours - and they all acted like we'd attached a 2 ton rock to their backs.

He's one tough little fella, that's for sure. He survived outside like that, so I'm sure a (mostly) carpeted home is like heaven!

Thanks for the vibes

We had a kitten come into our rescue that was missing half his back legs. Scooted around on his butt. Was the darnedest thing! LOL He's at Va Tech Vet school having surgery to even out his stumps and round them off to make it easier to walk. Can't imagine what this family is paying for this. But he's in a home that will do anything for him. My fellow foster Mom (whom took this kitten in) made sure of that before he left her home.

Higgins and Weebles will have the same intense scrutiny when approving their home. I'd keep them both in a heart beat if DH would so approve. Doubt it though.

ooh maybe they can outfit this guy with those metal legs like they did for that cat in England! It's cool they are working on this sort of thing now, even though cats tend to figure out how to get by on their own (scooting!)
