Hi

Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s been a while since I posted here. Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s not been a very good year for my family. Some of you may remember my boy Patch. He has an enlarged heart and UTIâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s all the time, well now we have a situation that I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t quite know how to deal with. He has been urinating outside his box for a while now, a couple of trips to the Vet for the usual antibiotics, nothing was working plus he started to bleed, I brought him back again and they did a blood work up and an ultra sound of his bladder. It turns out he has an inflammation in his bladder, cystitis, they say the only thing that could help him is a steroid, but with his heart problems itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s too risky. They have him on Dasuquin. Does anyone have any experience with Dasuquin, how effective is it for this? Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s his only real hope, they gave me a mild painkiller until he gets a buildup of it in his system. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d really appreciate any information you can give me. And if you canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t, please keep him in your prays. Thank you for reading.

Dasequin is good for the inflammation and should help him once he's been on it for a few weeks.

However:

Ask your vet about laser therapy. I've been reading about it, I thought it was just for arthritis but it is actually being used to treat cystitis in cats, too. I have the pamphlet from my vet right here in front of me!

It's non invasive, drug free, and doesn't hurt.

And it's not that expensive. At my vet three sessions is $41!

Thank you so much Otto, I never heard this but it is a very good option, I will call the vet this morning and ask about it. Thank you again, this is very hopeful.

Your welcome! Here's the website of the system my vet uses. I know there are other systems, butI would imagine they all can treat the same disorders.

The page in this link is the page that shows what can be treated on dogs and cats (scroll down for cat)

http://www.companiontherapylaser.com...s/applications

I fully intend to go this route the next time I have a cat with arthritis, or any other ailment that can be treated with laser.

Hi Patch has been battling with cystitis for months now. Nothing is working and the Vets tell me theres nothing they can do. He has an enlarged heart and can't have steroids. He's had antibiotics and dasuquin. He wont take the dasuquin regularly because I guess he gets tired of the taste (it gets sprinkled on his food) he's half feral and a big guy so he's hard to pill. He also has chronic UTI's and has had the P/U surgery. He bleeds on the floor, I have water bowls around. Long story short. OTTO from the below post was kind enough to tell me about Laser therapy for Cystitis. I think thats the way to go for him but my Vet never heard of this and I called all the Vet hospitals in the areas of New York and New jersey that I know of but a lot of them have not heard of this, it seems to be more in Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, Etc. Would anyone in the tri-state area know any vet hospital that does laser therapy? Thanks for reading.

I live in a small farming community in central New York State and the vet clinic I use has laser therapy. Sounds like these vets need to catch up!

The link I posted earlier is the system my vet uses, there are others.

Give your vet the link I posted. Is there a vet school near you? (within a 2 or 3 hour drive is what I consider "near")

It amazes me that vets are claiming they never even heard of it. How can that be? Surely these laser companies are out there having reps visiting vet clinics trying to sell their systems. I know not every clinic could afford it but it seems like at least ONE clinic in a given area might have one, and perhaps take referrals from other clinics.

I hope you can find one for Patch, what a trooper he is, and you, too.

Otto:

Again, thank you for your help. I will give the link to my Vet, I'll also look into a Vet school in the area. 2 or 3 hour drive would be well worth it if my little Patch could get some comfort.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

No problem!

I should add that I've never used that hospital (I'm in New England, and am much too far away), but if you're considering vet school hospitals, it might be a good place to start. I am familiar with urinary issues in cats and know that they can be really frustrating - again, best of luck to you.
