Quality canned food for kittens

We adopted two 8-week old kittens from our friends who were fostering them. They were being fed Friskies canned food. I'd like to switch them over to the canned brands that I feed my adult cats (Avoderm, TOTW, Blue Buffalo, Holistic Selects).

Are these wet brands OK for kittens, and is it OK to just start feeding them the new wet, or should I mix it, like you would for dry?

Also, how much wet food should I leave down at a time? I have been feeding them each a half-can in the morning, and a half-can when I get home from work, then another half-can each before bed. And I leave down about a cup of Taste of the Wild dry kibble. But, they seem starved when I get home... and they scarf the wet food down so fast.

It'll be interesting when they start mingling with the adult cats more. My oldest female needs to shed a few pounds so I've been watching her calories. But for now, the kittens are being fed in a separate room.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

read the label of the foods your feeding... the AFFCO seal will say for all life stages or growth and mantiance if okay for kitten

we don't mix canned foods our kitty has never had a problem. I don't think it effects them like dry food.

Hi Kittysback,

I tend to agree with lonelykitty. If you are worried you could try and and just put a small spoonful of each food on a plate at feeding time. Then your new kitten MIGHT eat both at the same time. But it might also make the kitten "choose" one over the other. So I am not sure that is a great idea in your situation.

Well, I tried some Avoderm last night, but one of them threw it right up almost immediately. Tonight I tried a little Blue Buffalo, but only a little bit at a time and it went well. I think yesterday I gave them each about 1/3 of a can, and it was their meal when I came home from work. So he may have been super hungry and just eaten it so fast. I'm going to go much slower and hope that helps.
Thanks!
