My daddy needs some prayers

He has been having trouble with his eyes lately, my daddy is a diabetic, and the other day one of them was bleeding so he went to the eye doctor. And the doc said that the nerve is detaching from his eye and if it continues he will go blind. They also said they are sending him to a specialist to see about taking cataracs off of his eyes because the doctor doesn't want to unless they make sure they can because of his diabetes he has trouble healing anyway. My dad is scared but doesn't say so maybe that is why he has been so grumpy lately. Blindness is prominant in our family anyway, six of my grandmother's nine children were born blind or they went blind soon after. My daddy isthe youngest of his siblins and so we have been around blindness our whole life but being born blind and going blind later in life is different. He is already having alot of trouble seeing. So all of this being said if the surgery is not succesful I will not be moving out, I will stay here and except for when I am at work I will take care of my daddy. I know he isn't always fair to me but my dad wasn't shown any compassion growing up and so he doesn't know how to approach people. I am going to stop now as I am sitting here and I am begining to cry and I don't want to do that. But if you could please keep daddy in your prayers.

Diabetes is complicated, and he needs to keep that in check... With that stated, my dad just had cataract surgery in both his eyes, and he is doing wonderful! In fact, he is, for the first time in his life, reading without glasses (they fixed his eye sight with internal lenses as well), and is able to see everything with amazing crispness! He said recovery was great and there was minimal to no pain involved. There was however a lot of eye drops that he had to put on his eye avery 1/2 hour or so for several days, so your dad will have to be very careful about that... My day also hired a nurse to do everything around the house as he lives on his own and he couldn't make any physical effort for a little while...
But if your dad listen to the doctors, puts the eye drops on time and is careful about resting... He should be just fine... It is a very simple surgery, and the results are really amazing.
My grandmother had the same surgery at 90 years old, she is 97 today and doing amazing as well!
Tell him to not be scared...
We will be thinking of you

The cataracts isn't really what is scaring him, its the nerve that is detaching from his eye and if it does then the cataract surgery will not matter. My dad is one of those strong silent types so when he gets scared it scares me. He worries more about us thought, if something happens to him he is afraid he won't be able to take care of us. My daddy has trouble remembering that both of his girls are grown now. Thank you all for the prayers for daddy. And hopefully he will just have to do the one surgery, but the surgeon says if he sugar is too high he will not do the surgery so that worries him as well.

Diabetes requires a lot of care and management! My dad just turned 79, and has had Type I diabetes since 9 years old. He's had treatment for glaucoma, cataract surgery, quintuple bypass surgery, and has a pacemaker. And that's with always very carefully managing his disease and his diet.

I will remember y'all in my prayers. It is wonderful of you to take care of him. People don't seem to realize how difficult caring for even the sweetest of elderly family members until they have been there. You are truly his angel.
