Premiere Lounge...

What is the difference between the Cat Lounge and the Premiere Lounge besides not having to deal with the ad's. Why is it so private, are things said there that are not allowed in the regular cat lounge, just wondering what the hype is, thanks.

I used to be a member of the private lounge, and I no longer pay for it. It's a little bit clique-ish, despite the fact that TCS tends to abhor cliques. There are members who pay for the PL, then only ever post in there instead of the cat lounge.

I guess it's a little bit elitist, as the posts are private for those who are willing to pay. The money paid goes to support the site's owner, Anne, which in of itself, is fine by me, after all, it's her site.

I don't pay anymore, and honestly, I stopped paying attention to any of the paid ads - the ads can pay Anne to help her keep TCS up and running and that's fine by me as well.

I didn't see any differences in the PL posts vs the CL posts. Just a smaller group of posters is all.

Edit: Oh, and FYI, I am NOT bashing TCS or the PL or anyone who pays to post in it - it's all about personal choice, and the above is just one poster's opinion.

You get a bigger avatar if you join the PL, and can buy (with your money in the TCS bank) colored titles and usernames, and different fonts.

Also, you can have 500 messages in your inbox. That's mostly why I do it, LOL. Plus you get to be in Secret Santa!!!!!!!!!

I do it for the pm box to but sometimes there's things u don't want everyone in the world to be able to find out so post in the premier lounge

That's why I joined in the first place - there are things in my life I may feel the need to "talk" about but want it in a more secure place and not available to everyone. It really does boil down to privacy for me.

For me it brings back a time when I first joined where TCS was small, everyone knew each other, we laughed a lot, posted up a storm and just got to know each other on a more personal level. I've been with this website a very long time and it has just grown to such an enormous user level. Plus, my friends are in there and I get to say hello from time-to-time and catch up on their lives.

I've wanted to be a premium member for years now, but just haven't had the extra money to spend. It's not that much I know, but the last few years have been very tight. But, the 500 message storage is worth it to me. And, I agree about the privacy thing. DH doesn't have an account, but one time he knew something was bothering me and went to TCS and and found a thread I started and read it. Not a big deal, but the tread was a "venting" thread, and I wasn't ready to talk about it yet since I was still sorting out my own feelings but after that I didn't have a choice. That's the beauty of the internet. You can get everyone's opinions, but what you post isn't private. I really like the idea that I can post something somewhere that isn't available for the general public to view.

I joined for the privacy factor too. If I want to complain about someone in my life, I do it in the PL. If I have a life crises, I prefer to do it in the PL because I feel that since it's smaller, people know me better and understand what it is I'm going through. I don't post much anymore, and I probably post 50/50 in the CL and PL. I also joined as a way to give back. There's not a lot of money in ads compared to costs in keeping a site running (paying for the board software and maintenance etc.), and since I spend so much time here it seemed worth it

To clarify on my part -
Premium membership is a way to create an opportunity for people to get some perks. It is an additional revenue stream from the site, and originally the idea was to allow for an ad-free paid version.

The special forum is one of the extras provided with the premium membership. As was mentioned, it is more private and not available for search engines to crawl. It also has only adults - no minors - so is less monitored than the general forums.

I would love to be a premium member to support the board since I've gotten so much wonderful help and support from the members, but at this time, it's just not in the budget unfortunately. On my home computer, I never see ads because I run Firefox and also use an ad blocker. However, when I access from my work computer, I see ALL the ads!

OK, sorry, really bad explanation...here's a better one...

If you lack the posts or time of membership to qualify for SECRET SANTA, obtaining a paid membership will automatically qualify you.
