When I found Wendy she was out side in my garage. She was only 6 weeks old. when ever somone leaves the door open she goes outside but she only stays in the garage or right on the deck where the door is. i dont want her to go outside i want her to be indoor cat. I know some cats just run away. i wonder why she doesent run since she was a outside cat.

Has Wendy been fixed? She may be trying to tell you that she has the urge to roam. Once the cat has been fixed you should have no trouble keeping her indoors.
Whenever one of my cats goes anywhere near a door we hiss at them so they know it is off limits.
I only have problems with one who refuses to listen so we ae careful not to open the door when she is near it.

It may be that she is attracted to the outside but nervous/scared at the same time.

One idea is to get a harness and leash and take her outside. Let her explore in safety, knowing she can't get away to become hurt or lost.

We take our cats into the yard, most of them love it. We let Lil climb small trees (saplings, really, she can only get 5 or 6 feet up and we can safely retrieve her). She gets a wild look in her eye and you can tell she is really enjoying herself!

Why are people leaving the door open if you don't want her to go outside? I think you should just make sure to leave the door closed all the time.

i live w\\ my aunt and she is very careless and forgets that the cat is here becouse i keep the cat down stairs in my room and when im home she romes upstairs. plus when my aunt leaves the house her dog goes crazy and he jumps on the door and it opens. also i have a 5yr old cousin who sometimes forgets to close the door. So what do i do then she onl has gotten out 4 times and one of the 4 times she open the screen door her self and sat on the deck. i just thought it was weir that wendy was going out side but not leaving the garage. Dont cats usualy run away and come back when they are hungry.

If you really don't want her to go outside I think the best suggestion is to make sure the door is always closed. But I know that when you live with other people it's hard to keep track of what's going on. There is a door hinge on the market that is designed to close a door after it is opened. It doesn't slam the door shut on you or anything like that, but it slowly closes it. Maybe you could look into something like that.

My cats were both afraid of the outdoors, they didn't run away, they would sit crouched on the front step.

I got a harness and leash for each one. Yes, they do want to go out more, but they also know the limits of the yard, and being creatures of habit, go exactly the same place every time. They have a route they follow, and if they get out by mistake I know exactly where to find them. And the funny thing is, they don't try to go where I won't let them go even when they are on the leash.

So I don't let them out, but if they do get out by accident, I know they are familiar with a small area, and are afraid of venturing further.
