Has anyone used a microchip-triggered cat door?

Hey I was wondering if anyone has used one of the cat doors that open by reading your cat's microchip? I am wondering if they are worth it and how well they work, or if one brand is better.

I have been thinking of getting one of these as a way to monitor the food intake of my overweight cat and my severe food allergy cat, while allowing the others free access to the food by putting it upstairs with the cat door only allowing access to the cats I choose. I already have a cat door leading to the upstairs apartment but it's just a regular cat door. I considered getting one of the ones with a collar key but my cats are always losing their collars so I don't think that would work.

These are the cat doors I am talking about:

I never knew such a thing even existed!

I have thought about making some type of enclosure, and putting a cat door up so they can go in and out freely.. but I would want to limit Bastets outdoor time to prevent sunburn.. I wasnt quite sure how I'd accomplish that.. an microchip activated door may be the solution.
