I feel like I'm letting Nora down. We are dead broke, so I guess I should be happy we can even keep feeding her at all, but we are down to feeding her Friskies wet food and Cat Chow Healthful Life dry food. *cry* I was feeding her Solid Gold Indigo Moon dry and Wellness wet. There is just no way we can continue feeding her that food anymore. Please tell me I'm not a bad mommy and I'm not going to kill my cat. *sigh*

I have 3 dozen cats I feed theres been times wet food is sophistacat and drys purina or friskies. At moment they all eat friskies wet and science diet dry(amazing deal let me buy that for about same cost of purina dry.

Plenty of cats make it just fine on these brands. I would only be concerned if shes allergic or doesnt tolerate the food. IMO life isnt always steak and mansions for the cats-sometimes its a 3 bedroom house and hamburgers

Life is the better alternative then starving. Hope things improve for you

Oh honey,
You just do what you gotta do.... Don't you think for a minute you are letting her down

All you are doing, is including her in the program...
I bet you, hubby and the kids are not eating filet mignon?
Things are hard, and in that situation, everyone needs to contribute a little... When I was unemployed, my food wen down in quality tremendously - did I die? no...
Always remember, that one very important key in the right cat food, is also the one that fits in your budget... When things get better, her food will get better...
She has plenty of love, she is sheltered, she is healthy... She is still eating wet food... She will be fine honey

I don't know if you have a costco close by, but if you do, their food is high quality and very low price - 25lbs for about $15...

What everyone said - millions of cats have done well on 'lesser' brands - as long as it's AAFCO certified for being full and complete nutrition, and the cats are eating it - pooing and peeing well -stop beating yourself up. You'r providing shelter, warmth, food, and most importantly, love. You're a good mom.

We do, but we can't afford a membership, especially since pretty much the only thing we would buy there would be cat food. lol I've tried to get friends to snag us some food while they were there and no one ever pulls through for us in the end.

Cat Chow Healthful Life is the best food I could find in our grocery store. I tried to convince DH to keep getting the Indigo Moon and do the Friskies wet, b/c she eats more wet food these days and her dry food stretches pretty far, but he wouldn't go for it. Bummer.

I love my cats so very much. But I have to feed Friskies wet because it is the diet recommended for his diabetes. It is easier than seperating him out at every feeding, and he cannot have dry food.

I had a cat live to be 22 eating nothing but Dads dry food. Of course that was years ago.

We do the best we can do for our animals. They are not out eating mice for survival. I even heat it from time to time and add warm water to it.

They all are healthy, lovely coats, playful. If Friskies was so bad a food, it would not be recommended to treat his FD. He has been doing great.

So don't feel guilty. We do what we can.

Don't feel too bad! You are doing the best you can... There are plenty of cats who get dry Cat Chow their whole lives, so she's already had better than probably the majority of pet cats out there since she has had better foods and when you can afford better food for her she will again.
I don't know much about Friskies but if you can get Fancy Feast many of their foods are not that bad as far as ingredients. I know there are also some inexpensive option of dry foods that have better ingredients so those may also be options for now.

don't feel bad she is being loved and cared for. She will be fine, you guys will be fine. I'm actually concerned if I can keep affording the same quality all wet food for Samara once my unemployment runs out as well but we do the best we can which's what your doing.

As long as you're doing the best you can, that's what counts.

I think Purina Naturals is a bit better than Healthful Life, and costs about the same.

Hi Hun,

You should be proud your willing to keep your cat. I do rescue, foster and re-homing of cats. So I can say that many people in your situation would not keep the cat. They either just let the cat go or give it to the shelter. So like I said the fact you want to keep your cat is great in my book.

Now onto nutrition, I am a licensed vet tech so I have some formal "training" along with a lot of hands on experience. Plus having my own cats. I have seen plenty of cats that eat "store brands" and live a very long life. I mean into there teens. So I would not worry that much. As everyone has stated as long as your cat is eating, peeing and pooping normally I would not worry.

Please try and not worry and I hope your situation improves soon

Don't forget you can also sign up for the wellness newsletter on their website and get coupons for $1 off canned food. That makes a HUGE difference.
