It's MY bed

...so why do I feel bad every time I have to move my cats in the middle of the night? Last night, for example, I woke up extremely uncomfortable at about 4 in the morning. I tried to roll onto my other side, but that's when I saw what had been making me so uncomfortable: my cats have decided to lock me into one sleeping position at night. My 3 month old kitten, Tails, sleeps right by my stomach/chest, pressed right against me. He's been doing that for a while and it's always adorable. Well, now my 12 lb lanky cat, Memphis, has decided the back of the bend in my knees is perfect for him to curl up in, so he was pressed up against the back of my legs.

I had to pick up Memphis, waking him up in the process, and put him next to Tails so I could roll over and relieve the now-intense cramps forming from lack of movement. I felt bad about waking Memphis up (he didn't seem to mind, he went right back to sleep) but also, I feel he deserved it somewhat because I noticed the position I was in when I woke up. Somehow, Memphis waited for me to be in the most awkward position possible before he jumped on my bed and locked me in place. What a stinker.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my kitten has taken to sleeping completely stretched out, at a full 26" long, and all 26" are pressed against me, so it's a very tight and secure locking mechanism.

Does anyone else's cat(s) try to take over their bed at night, or make sleeping uncomfortable in some other way?

Yes Autumn likes to sleep either up against me with my arm around her which means my arm is on top of the covers. She doesn't like to be under the covers for some reason, she still has her timid ways. That's not as bad as when she sleeps at the bottom of the bed up against my legs and I can't get comfortable. I hate to bother her but eventually when my legs cramp up, I have to change positions and get comfy. When I get that horrible RLS, forget it cause my legs don't stay still. She then just jumps off the bed.

Oh that's a hoot! At one time or another during the time, we'll have the six of them in bed with us. It's a queen-sized bed and there's just no room. BooBoo likes to sleep in the crook of DH's knees and, when DH moves during the night and disturbs him, Boo will hiss and growl at DH!

Mollipop is usually flopped between DH and me with her head on my arm. During the night she'll start to lay cross-ways in the bed, which means that both DH and I keep moving further and further to the edges and Molli gets the whole center. Ms. Pepe has gotten into the habit of lying on my pillow with her head in my hair; during the night she'll decide she needs to bathe and I awaken to her licking my hair. And Whisper lies right on DH's side. Bootser is with Boo and Amber is at the foot of the bed, right by my feet.

It gets really cramped after a while, but we do try not to move, so that we don't disturb them.

(It's their house; we just pay the mortgage.)

That's how Abby often sleeps when she is sleeping on the left side of the bed. She lays on her side with her butt wedged up into my arm pit, head towards my feet, and her tummy right up against mine.

Abby likes to think she owns my bed. And for the most part she does. But if I'm uncomfy or need to get up, I have no qualm moving her. I know when I do get back into position or into bed, she will be right back where she started anyway. She's like bad static cling!

Yes, Nora used to always sleep with DH, under the covers and all, b/c she has claimed him as her human. Recently, though, she has started sleeping on top of the covers, pressed up against the curve of my back so I'm stuck in one spot. I do feel bad moving, and I don't know why. LOL Maybe it's b/c I'm glad she has finally chose to sleep with me. LOL I'm a whiny brat. haha

lol dont feel bad! Gary and I havent turned the heat on yet because the temp keeps flip flopping so we wake up with both cats snuggled between us!! Joey wedges himself between us so that we have to both pet him, and Google sleeps pressed up against Garys legs or between Garys legs!
Google is impossible to move too! If you wake up uncomfortable and try to move him he growls and bites... so you just have to slowly move your legs around him..

I'm usually pinned down by three or four cats. Goldy doesn't come onto the bed with the other cats, but she'll plop herself down on me as soon as I sit or lie on the couch. I hate to move them so I try to get into a comfortable position when I first go to bed. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work. I still wake up really stiff.

Actually, it's THEIR bed and they allow YOU to sleep with them!

I see I'm a member of a very popular club!

One of my RB cats used to sleep near my head almost nightly. I didn't always appreciate the way he'd slowly claim the pillow for himself over the course of the night. Now I actually wish my cats would sleep up there! My current three all insist on sleeping by my legs, and I often wake up feeling achy because I've been lying in a contorted position for hours!

When I go to bed Skitter follows me up the stairs and jumps on the bed before I even have the chance to set foot inside the room and looks at me like "well what are you waiting for" when I go to crawl into bed she stretches as for as out she can and slaps her tail against the bed.

When I finally get settled she curls up and wants pettings now while laying on my right arm leaving my left arm to pet her. When she is done she curls up at my feet and she is done there for the night.

At some point Doola joins us on my bed and I haven't noticed a pattern with her yet. just that she is there when I wake up.

Our bedroom is kitty free... We would never get ANY sleep otherwise. I am an incredibly light sleeper and have issues as it is with sleep. I really wish my kitties COULD sleep with us at night, but they would never actually just sleep.
