OK - wanted to play some videos for Mom and hers is an old TV, approx. 20 y.o.

Well, I switch the TV to LINE and flick on the DVD player. Nothing but squiggles. Ugh! My boyfriend and I do some troubleshooting - test the cord and player with his TV. Both are fine.

Sooooooo.... I guess that means the video input on the TV is bad?? Yes? No??

We were talking about getting a larger, flat-screen TV anyway... so maybe this is the push we needed.

The room is about 15 x18 so we are thinking 40 inch and up. Current TV I thiiiinnnkkkk is 27 or 28" older style.

Any advice?

We have two http://www.vizio.com/ Vizio's (not as large as the size you are looking at), but we like them. We have had them for two years or so and have had no problems.

I just got a 42 inch LED from LG. I don't have a room as large as yours but it is certainly large enough for my living room. I can't say anything about reliability because I haven't had it very long but it has a great picture. I got a sound bar from Polkaudio and I am glad I did. The sound bar makes a big difference in the sound and I don't have the speakers with all the wires around the living room, just the sound bar on the stand in front of the TV and a wireless subwoofer.

We have a 42-inch JVC in our bedroom. It's just the right size for us. And it has an iPod dock, too, which is perfect for me. We're working on surround sound for the bedroom now.
