Morning!

Do you have any plans yet for New Year's? Do you normally party, or just prefer a quiet night inside?

We used to party, but now most of the time we stay home. We rent a bunch of movies and I prepare our snacks for the evening. Our DVD is in the bedroom, so we spend the night in bed with the cats and some movies. And that's what we're doing again this year. New Year's Eve falls on a Friday night.

On Saturday night, Jan 1, we're having three other couples come in for a bit of a party. We'll play some kind of cards and just hang out together to enjoy each other's company. It will be fun.

My first year in SC, I went to a big party. The next year, we didn't talk to as many of them anymore - everyone had different things going on in their lives (kids, marriage, divorce, military deployment, etc).

Went to the neighbors house a couple years ago and just sat around drinking and playing card games, listening to the radio, and having a good time. He moved in '09, hubby is still upset about that.

If we find something to do, we may go do it. We originally planned to have a New Year's bonfire/cookout/party at our house, but the last cookout we had was a flop with a bunch of people saying they'd come then they didn't, so he doesn't really want to anymore. We may still burn some wood and invite people we KNOW are good friends over, or we may just spend it with the kitties watching movies then watching the ball drop at midnight.

I normally party, and this year will be no different. 3 of my friends are having parties, and Dec. 31st is my Mom's last day of work before retirement so it will be extra special.

You know, I haven't seen that ball drop now in almost 40 years. One of our traditions is that, at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, DH and I kiss. We start kissing as the crowd is chanting "10, 9, 8....." and we don't stop until we hear "Happy New Year!" We kissed our very first year of marriage and it's something that we've done every year since. So....nope, I haven't seen the ball drop in a long time!

I haven't been out on New Year's Eve in a very long time but this year Russ and I and a few other couples are thinking about going to one of the hotel's that are throwing a party and you get a room to spend the night and breakfast. It really looks good and we won't have to drive. We are not sure of anything yet but you do have to make the reservations early so we need to make a decision soon. It will be nice to go out for a change but nothing is positive yet.

We usually just stay at home and celebrate with DS. We watch the ball drop on tv and drink carbonated apple juice to celebrate.

Our friend Steve always comes over, he lives on his own with his dog Rufus, he works really hard and he has known my dh since dh was 12. Almost like part of the family, my kids call him Uncle Steve lol.He gets him mum to look after his dog (which the cats are very thankful for
)
On New years eve, I normally do a buffet so that we can nibble away all evening and basically sit down, watch the celebrations on tv and get sloshed
New Years day is the main event we have a roast, almost like another christmas day dinner, Steve and dh cook, Steve is a fabolous chef and I always look forward to it and it means I can put my feet up and don't have to cook and I have a dishwasher, so no pots either

Quiet night! - It's kind of a must for those of us who live very close to Times Square/Broadway. Once outdoors, it's a hassle to return to our residences because we need to show papers to the police as proof we live in such-and-such building. Otherwise they don't let us past the blue barricades and they're super strict. It's nutso. Way better to stay in til the zaniness is over.

I usually go out to dinner with friends from my dojo (we always go to a Japanese resturant) then we head back to their place for dessert and games until the ball drops.

This year i am not sure what I am going to do....DH is working at the resturant that night so what i might do is have dinner with my friends and head to the resturant where DH works and sit and drinks and dessert at the bar so we can ring in the new year together.
