So my cat, Dante, has just recently decided he wants to be a messy eater. He takes the kibble out of the bowl (And shoves the bowl everywhere), crunches it up into [tiny] pieces, devours what he gets in his mouth, and leaves crumbs EVERYWHERE. The other cat that was introduced a few months ago does this, and I think it rubbed off. Is there anything I can do to curb this behavior? It's causing some major ant problems and I can't always be there to sweep it up.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Cats don't really "decide" to do things like this. My opinion is that something is going on in his mouth..a dental problem.
I recommend you take Dante to the vet for a thorough check up, and stress that you want the vet to check his mouth and gums.
To contain the food though, you could get a large low sided tote, such as the type that goes under the bed, and put food dishes in that. They can hop in and eat, then hop out again.
But I really think Dante needs to see the vet.

Aside from the vet visit you can also try feeding from plates instead. Many cats don't like eating out of bowls because of the sides hitting their whiskers and difficulty getting food out.

It could be behavioral. My kitten did the same thing when I got him. He started eating the same way he did in the shelter, but over time he started eating messier and messier as he watched my other cat purposely spill food to eat it off the floor.
