Question Of The Day - Saturday, November 27th

Good morning folks!

Here's today's question.

What is your biggest phobia?

For me it's heights. Whenever I get too high up, I just freeze.

Water that is any deeper than my neck. I get nervous crossing over bridges and down right scared in boats. I've tried to break the phobia by forcing myself into situations that involve water and they generally backfire. I went white water rafting one time and our raft went over a 20 foot waterfall. I jumped into deep water off the coast of Panama and ran into very large baracuda's. I was in a canoe one time (also in Panama) to hear there were crocodiles in the river and our canoe nearly tipped over. Hey - I tried!

Easy question....spiders.

Not the daddy long legs kinds. I will even pick them up, but those furry, big, black ones.

I know wolf spiders are harmless, but they absolutely freak me out!! Yet, snakes and I get along quite well!

Snakes--I can't watch one on tv, I can't even touch a picture of one. If I come across a pic in a book or magazine I just freeze. I really don't understand it, but it's something I've had my whole life.
For some reason I've become afraid of crossing bridges, especially if I'm not driving.
Heights and I don't get along too great, either.

Geez, I sound like a real wuss, don't I?

Bridges! Don't know why, but mostly big, long bridges, or ones with humps in the middle, or long steel span ones.... short ones don't usually bug me unless I'm tired or don't feel well, but they can send me into a full-fledged panic attack! I've dealt with this in varying degrees over the years, had counselling for it, and medication(that makes me sleepy!).... was doing really, really good this summer with this, even mentioned to my mom that I'd crossed a certain one that really bugs me and without any trouble...... then a friend and I took a road trip through Memphis to pick up a car in Arkansas.....going out of Memphis, guess who panicked thoroughly? The worst part? I knew that I had to drive across it again (at night, which makes it worse) in order to get home because my friend would be driving the car we were picking up.....arrrrrrrrgh!

Spiders for me too, but I don't like ANY of them!

Centipedes. I can't stand them and if I see one I freak out. I have only lived in my house for a month and I have already seen 3...but that was all within an hour one night.

You will all think this is kind of odd, but I have a fear of fish. I would never be caught going for a swim anywhere, period. Even if its just an indoor pool, being inside water makes me think of fish brushing past my body and it just freaks me out, to a point where I have a panic attack unless I get out immediately. They are so just so slippery and gross. Their stare is so dull and creepy, like they have eyes but they don't really see.
Now I feel exposed. Please no one throw me in water!!

Falling. I really am very afraid of falling.

I am scared to death of being in the dark. We have a nightlight on in the bathroom at night. And when DH is out of town overnight, I keep the television on all night with the sound turned down so that I can just barely hear the noise.

Heights. Terrified.

I HATE spiders (I have scars to justify that fear!), clowns (horrify me!!!), and bridges

If it makes you feel better, I have to drive that bridge all of the time and I HATE it; not because of the bridge itself, but because of the idiots that come bariling along beside you (18 wheelers especially)- I'm always afraid some dumb driver will send my car flying into the river!! In Memphis, we call that bridge the "Dolly Parton" bridgeGotta love the perks of living in this city- crazy drivers and even more crazy bridges! That one in particular (Memphis-Arkansas bridge, is gorgeous when it's lit up at night! I don't think that the bridge itself is too horrible, just the drivers that like to cross it!) That's just Memphis for ya though. My least favorite bridge EVER is the Pensacola Bay Bridge! I've been on it several times as a passenger and was horrified about going over all of that water!

Drowning. The thought of being dropped into the deep sea is terrifying. I love the ocean and beach, but you will never find out without life jacket in the middle of it. I'm also afraid of being alone and dying alone. Weird, eh.

Being confined...whether that be held under water, or tied to something, or in a small area, etc...if I don't have control over my body I start to severely panic.

Heights for me too. I can't look down when I am too high, it's really scary for me.

For me, water and climbing ladders are about equal. Fear of water is so bad, I am afraid to even wade into a shallow slough, and we won't even discuss going over water. Climbing ladders bothers me to the point I want to puke if I get up more than three steps; this is NOT fear of heights because I can work on scaffolding and used to mountain climb, heck, I would dearly LOVE to be able to take at least one more ride on the gondolas at Sulphur Mountain in Banff since climbing is kinda rough when you walk with a stick
