That is a nice looking house. A few weeks ago my neighbor asked me to look up one of his favorite houses, a cute little one story bungalow, that went on sale. He was willing to make a serious offer if the house was in the low 100's...It ends up the house (probably half the size of your favorite house) was selling for $300,000! After seeing that, I think I'm going to be living in apartments for the rest of my life!

WOW! That's a lot of money! In my small town, usually the highest priced houses are $200,000...but most are in the $50,000 to $100,000 range.

Wow! I'm glad I live in Iowa...that house is beautiful, but no more fancy than the one I own, and my home would maybe bring 100,000 here IF I was lucky. Prices here are just way cheaper. We sold my grandmas house that my father was living in after she died (we sold it after he died) for 15,000. It was a cozy little 2 bedroom house with new carpet and central air. Needed a little repairs here and there, nothing major, but that was it. My brother who is from Colorado said we could have gotten four times that if it was in Colorado.

I wish I were rich enough to afford one! I've always wanted either a brand new house or an old Victorian. Maybe when I marry a Sugar Daddy I could have one!

Back in 1992 my parents bought this house for $17,000. Granted we did some work to it, but we got it appraised last year & could have gotten $50,000 out of it. We still have work to be done on this house, but when money is tight & they aren't major needs we just can't do it. We desperately need new carpet through the living room, dining room, bathroom and kitchen, but it would cost a fortune to do it.

Shell... You mentioned you needed new carpet, but couldn't afford it...maybe it would pay you to make a trip to Southern Iowa, we put all new carpet and linoleum in the whole house when we moved in for about 2,000. (and that's having it delivered and installed as well)I can give you the name of the town we bought it in and the store...I have many friends who have bought their carpet/linoleum there...it is pretty cheap.

Yep! Things are MUCH cheaper here, but when you look at the wages they've gotta be cheap. I've been working at WalMart for 10 years and I just now am making 8 bucks an hour. So in the long run, things are are just as expensive because the pay sucks here.

Mom & Dad priced it last year and it was going to be around 3000 for the carpet. That is with installation and padding. I didn't think it was outragously priced, but they just don't have 3000 to blow on carpet right now. Plus, they sprung on us kids that once my Grandma passes away they're moving to Kentucky. Granny's in perfect health, but she is 81 years old. There isn't anything here besides her that Mom & Dad couldn't live with out. We've got some family, but no one as close as Granny. Don't have a freaking clue why Kentucky though?
