The tissue is enlarged and she had to put a patch on it because it was not going to hold much longer, so there is some risk the next 24 hours.

The doctor said it could be one of three things that all look very similar, two of which are very bad so we are really, really rooting for #3. She said it could be cancer, FIP, or was a blockage that cleared up but is very irritated. She did a biopsy and we will know in about 5 days.

Lily should be coming home in 2-3 days first, though, tomorrow we are going to visit her in the morning and probably again in the evening.

Lily is the most gentle and sweetest kitty... all our kitties are family members but Lily is my little sweetheart. All prayers continue to be very appreciated.
Please continue to keep us posted, Lily is in our thoughts

Update: The night doctor called and said Lily is doing great, she recovered from the anesthesia very well. They are going to try to feed her at noon, which is earlier than they said originally. I don't know if they have a special food to give her, but I'm going to bring a little can of her favorite Royal Canin and bring her a toy for a smell of home.

If anybody wants to guess the problem, I'll list what the doctors have told me:

1) slight temperature when brought in, but was higher when surgery was done

2) blood work looks excellent, no elevated white blood cell count

3) part of the intestine, a lymph node, and the "cat's equivalent" of a appendix were very swollen or enlarged, some liquid present (that was the mass on the x-ray and ultrasound), in that area the intestinal wall was very thick

The day before Lily stopped eating, she had a healthy breakfast and dinner. She was zipping around the house excitedly, probably from the excitement of the snow outside (we were all home and excited, too). I played with her and gave her catnip and she jumped around and chased the string-toy.

Lily looking out the door, isn't if funny how I love the back of her head.
So cute.

I am sending many prayers and for your Lily. I read all of the updates and it seems Lily is doing a little better now. I pray she will come home in good health and continue to lead a happy life. She is so beautiful and I love the back of her head too.

Just seeing this thread now, and I'm glad the surgery went well. Will she be home soon?
So they don't know for sure what the problem was? Do cats get appendicitis like humans?

I want to thank you all again so much, for the support and prayers and vibes and hugs, for Lily and for us.

Our car and street are snowed under, so my husband and I hoofed to the bus stop, nothing was going to keep us from seeing her today! It's starting to get rainy so hopefully things will be clear enough that we can drive to see her tonight (daughter is in school today and wants to visit her, too).

Lily looked very good, very bright eyes and she stood up when she saw me. She meowed at my husband and wanted to go out of the cage to come home. She hasn't eaten yet (didn't touch the food I brought while we were there) so they are giving her an appetite stimulant because ideally she will be eating before she comes home.

Next 24 hours are still critical, if her intestine patch will hold up, but the doctor is very optimistic because she is responding so well.

I'll ask the doctor tonight about the appendicitis in cats question (good question!), and will update then.

Fantastic that you got to see her! Ask the vet if you can try feeding her while you're visiting. When Hannah was so sick and I had to visit her at the vet, they said she ate better when I was there than when she was by herself. You might also bring her bowl from home and a blanket or old shirt with your scent on it for her.

Continuing to pray for a full recovery for her!

I just saw your post - it's Thursday (Thanksgiving Day), and 12:45 pm pacific time (CA).

My heart sank for you, your family, and Lily and I prayed as you requested.

I was scrolling through all the other posts so I could tell you I was praying, too, and it was wonderful to then find that she was out of surgery - and, that it wasn't a tumor!!! How so very thankful we are!!!

Will continue to pray that she has a complete recovery.

Blessings!

I forgot to say that Lily might be coming home as early as tomorrow (Friday) morning! *fingers crossed*

I've been rereading all of your posts several times and it helps me so much to know that you guys are thinking about her and sending good thoughts and prayers!
