So, to start of my tale of adventure...

My partner and I currently have 10 cats - or I should say they're my cats, even though he loves them too, expecially my eldest. Up until the past weekend gone, we had one dog as well, a male Keeshond who is technically my partners as he loves to declare although we got him together.

My partner has been harrassing me to get our dog a playmate for MONTHS. He loves Huskies & Samoyds and I couldn't think of anything worse. I'm not a dog person. I love all sorts of cats IMMEDIATELY, But each dog is different, I love them on their individual merrits and some dogs I can't stand, expecially puppies.

So, I give in, and I contacted a registered pedigree breeder which is different because our current male was found in a pet shop (yeah I know, but we feel in love with him on sight) and although is said to be pedegree doesn't have the papers and doesn't look quite purebreed.

I choose a Keeshond breeder (and no, not a puppy farm, I saw the parents) because everyone said Keeshonds DONT BARK. Well. Our eldest male doesn't bark, unless he wants to dominate other dogs. He'll bark at dogs bigger than him, but other than that, we rarely hear his voice. Strange hey?

So, this is where the "don't believe it until you see it" comes in. Ie, I shouldn't have believed them because this puppy won't shut up!!!!! She barks ALL THE TIME when she's alone. Our eldest male only *just* tollerates her, which since she will bark constantly unless we keep them together, is just dandy.

The funniest thing??? These dogs LOVE my cats. My cats are like
? I put the puppy in their play room and it is the cutest thing seeing like 5 cats in their big cat bed and a gorgeus fluffy puppy (overgrown pomeranian looking, think dark grey) just sitting in the middle.

The funny thing is, when she's with my cats, she doesn't bark! the problem is, apart from J one of my younger males, the others are wary, and won't eat with her around, so she can't stay with them forever.

But yeah, here I was thinking, Keeshonds don't bark, and the breeder laughing at me saying
? and me not believing her... umm yeah, I've realised we lucked out with our older male (the puppy is female) and that it's just his personality that he doesn't have a lot to say? lol

Is there a device you can buy to emit a sound unpleasant to dogs when they bark? It doesn't go around their neck or anything. I think it's free standing and perhaps called the Bark Off or something similar. I briefly saw something like that on tv the other day. Eventually they learn to associate barking with the device going off. By the way, I looked at Lilly-Jade's catpage. She is so cute!!

Thankyou.

Yes Lilly is beautiful, she's one of my eldest.

Here's a photo of Poppy, isn't she beautiful?

She's fine most of the time, but goes nuts in the morning, late at night and expecially if we seperate Kai from her (our 18 month old Keeshond male)

However, I think I've solved the problem. As long as it's not at dinner time for my cats or when i've just refilled their waters on a hot day, when I take Kai for one of his 4x daily walks (she won't walk on a leash yet, too young to take with us) I just put her in the cats large play room - and guees what? Blissful silence.

Poppy & Kai are fantastic with the cats. I think that is a trait of the breed. Poppy is happy to play nicely with the cats if they let her or I think I can teach her to sleep with them too if the cats will trust her.

Kai is known to challenge a Staffy Pitt Bull that is twice his size and weight but when with my cats, he'll sit there and not even look at them. Now that's the type of dog you want to have lol.

But yeah, the point of this thread was, I believed it when people said the breed diddn't bark, thought it was a special breed lol and then Poppy came along and I realised that it's just Kai that's the special one lol.

It is funny because it isn't my dog. I am so glad you found a solution. Poppy is beautiful. I was told Maltese/poodle wouldn't shed. They are hypoallergenic
Then why is my bed covered in her hair? Why do I have an asthma attack everytime she sneaks onto my bed. My pomeranian sheds less and I am not allergic to her.

Is your dog a Maltese X Poodle? Maybe it has more Maltese like features when it comes to fur?

Wikipedia says:

Unlike most dogs which have double coats, poodles have a single layer (no undercoat) of dense, curly fur[14] that sheds minimally[15] and could be considered hypoallergenic (though not completely allergen free).
My partner once had a poodle with his ex wife and I got to meet the poodle. He was the most beautiful puppy & then dog. He diddn't smell like other dogs. His fur smelt like human hair. It never caused my sinuses any problems and diddn't make me itch.

They got the poodle, because his ex wife is allergic to normal fur, double coats - cats and dogs, so it's the only breed they could really get.

Malteses shed horribly though. My mom has 3 of them (Maltese X), and I couldn't wait to be out of that house. My god, the hair gets EVERYWHERE.

In fact, we have to continually brush Kai because once his double coat grows in, his hair is everywhere too. My mom never bothered, so it just got everywhere and annoyed the hell out of me.

Yes that's a cute picture of Poppy. Cute name too. I notice a lot of your cats have baby faces and doe eyes. Adorable.
As for shedding, I asked a neighbor about his dogs -He said his breed has "hair, not fur" so they basically don't shed, which sounds cool
I was a little surprised because I never heard of that ("hair, not fur").

Yea, there are a few types of dogs with Hair instead of fur. I'm not sure if there are cats with hair... I think the closest you get to a hypoallergenic cat are the naked cats. My father breads Yorkshire terriers. They are one of the hair v.s. fur types. They are REALLY good for people with dander allergies. No fur no Dander
(they stay cleaner than normal dogs too, no yucky wet dog smell after a bath)
