I'm so sad, I", devastated really. I love my cats so much and things haven't been perfect because my Lucas has a "benign" type of Lupus and he is FIV positive, but this news have been the more devastating to me.

My beautiful 5 year old cat Princess has Feline Leukemia. She was doing perfectly fine, but a week ago she started loosing weight, in a matter of days she lost a lot. Then she started sleeping a lot and not eating, so I isolated her. her gums turned white so I took her to the vet, they ran some tests and she tested positive for FELV.

What am I going to do now? I'm scared to death of my other cats having the virus, Im going insane. I will take them to have the test done next week, I''m terrified because i know how contagious Feline Leukemia is.

Princess is not doing good at all, she went to the vet on Monday and to this day, she hasn't eaten by herself, I've been giving her fluids and nutrical. She was also given a vitamine inyection and she is taking oral iron vitamins because she is so anemic. She doesn't get up and she is suffering, I don't know what to do, If she is still like this on Friday I will take her back to the vet. I don't want her to suffer.

I lost Oreo months ago and now I"m loosing Princess, I"m afraid of loosing all my kitties, I can't take it

Oh my gosh Tamar, I am so so sorry

Were they not tested when they first came to you? I am not sure what the procedure is in there in PR, but it is the very first thing we do here in the US... I hope all the other kitties are ok... And I hope she turns the corner, gets better from this and have some more time with you...
I am not really sure what to say here... If you should vaccinate all the other kitties or keep her in complete isolation from now on... The vaccine is not 100% effective though. I guess one step at a time... You probably have to keep treating her, keep her isolated...
There is a member here who has a FeLV kitty isolated and all other healthy cats - she has a bunch of posts about it - you probably want to read them and maybe start a conversation... Her posts are great! Her name is GloriaJH here is the thread from when she found out about it, and how she started working things around the house to keep him and the other kitties safe: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=218297

Thank you all. Here in PR they don't do that test, in fact, that test is performed by only two vets in my area. here in PR you adopt a cat and they just give the kitty the vaccines and they neuter it, and that's it.

Lucas had all those tests done because he got sick and it turned out he had Lupus and he was FIV positive.

All my kitties are vaccinated, even Princess and she still has that virus.

There is a lot of ignorance when it comes to cats and cats diseases here in PR. I've done my research because I care about my kitties, and I looked until I found a vet who does all the tests and he is a vet who really cares about cats.

But the truth is 'most people here in PR don't know a thing about FeLV or FIV and they just don't care. People here don't like spending great amounts of money in their animals". All puertorricans are not like this, but most are. Sad , but true.

Tahnk you for the links, I will check them now.

You and Princess and all your kitties will be in my prayers. If I was a rich person, I would pour money into research for feline diseases like this.

Be strong and have faith.

God bless.

If your others test negative then vaccinate them and leave it at that. There is no reason for isolation at this point, they either already have it or they are immune already. Most adult cats have a natural immunity to FeLV, the amount of virus it takes to infect 100% of neonate kittens would infect less than 30% of adult cats.

I had Attitude and Nuts(both FeLV+) inside with Maude(FeLV negative) and Maude crossed the bridge(liver failure at 10 years old) totally negative. Nuts is perfectly healthy and well, Attitude as everyone here knows, wasn't. She was put to sleep at 17 months earlier this month. Attitude is the only one out of the cats who had any issues Biter, Runt, Half-tail, Nuts and Blue are all happy and healthy(even though Goldie Jr and Mama have recently vanished never to be seen again but everyone but Nuts are outside cats and it happens. I am trying to hold out hope for Mama.)

It sounds like she isn't doing too good. I'm sorry about this. No one can tell you what you should do as it is your call. Personally Attitude never got to the point of anemia and being unable to walk(those 2 go hand and hand), but she had a URI(for well over a month) that we couldn't find an antibiotic to cure, and had quit eating and hadn't used the litterbox in over 24 hours so I think her organs were starting to go. I couldn't take force feeding her any more and she was suffering so I let her go. She went downhill fast, that seems to happen, they are fine and then they just suddenly nosedive. Attitude had minor issues like a never ending eye infection but over the summer she was sick for over 3 months(mostly with an eye infection, even though it eventually morphed into eye, unilateral bloody nose and URI), got well then got sick again and then nosedived when we couldn't find the right antibiotic.

I'm so sorry about this. It's a wicked disease.

Taryn, your post makes me feel so much better, maybe my other kitties don't have it, I pray they don't. I'm having them all tested. They all have their vaccines.

Princess is still very sick, she doesn't seem to be in pain, but she doesn't look good at all, I"m still feeding her water and nitrical because she won't get up to eat.

Yesterday I put her in the litter box myself and she urinated. I feel terrible because I should have put her in there earlier, maybe she wanted to go and couldn't walk. This is breaking my heart. I also took her in my arms and took her outside to get some son and some iar, and seh seems relaxed.

I will wait a few days to see how she is and I will take her back to the vet. I will not let her suffer, I"m just trying and waiting to see if there is a possibility that she could get better.

Thank you so much.

My beautiful baby Princess passed away today. She was suffering so much that we decided it was time. So we took her to the vet and now she is resting in peace. I've cried so much that my eyes are sore, but I"m glad she is not suffering anymore and I did everything in my power to help her and I comforted her to the end.

She will always live in my heart. Princess I love you
and i miss you so much!

I am so sorry. She was a beautiful girl. Please take comfort that in her case, she went quickly. Sometimes, although it is so sudden, at least she did not suffer long.

I will put Princess and you in my prayers tonight. She knows no pain, just love.

Down through the years, my cats have become even closer to me after they go to the Bridge. They live in our hearts, our Heart Cats.

How much closer can they be.

God Bless.
