Is this normal? Abby's adult canines are coming in on her upper jaw, but the baby fangs haven't fallen out yet. So she has a double set. The gum is red and irritated looking there. What do I do about this or is this a job for the vet?
Completely normal. As long as they are not coming in at an odd angle the adults will usually push the baby teeth out. I have 2 brothers with both sets at moment and the next litters are JUST starting to cut their adults.
I would worry about them being so red tho. Is it the entire gum or just the area immediately surrounding the tooth?
Spayed yet? Usually if theres an issue the vet will pull out any retained at time of spay/neuter
Yep. She is spayed and the redness is just around the fangs(canines, whatever). It looks really weird because the adult and milk teeth are right next to each other. She has double teeth. But only on the top. I tried to wiggle them with my finger. She wasn't happy with that and neither set moved. It has been 20 years since we have had a kitten this young in the house. My other cats just lost theirs without any weirdness like this.
It's perfectly normal. The adult ones come in on top of the baby ones and then the baby ones fall out. If they don't then they'll have to be surgically removed, but just wait and they'll probably be gone one day when you look. Tumbles' fell out when he was playing. I actually found one on the floor and saved it!
Nuts had both sets for a very short amount of time. I was going to call the vet but my boyfriend told me to wait. I did and less than a week later he only had one set left.
