It's reality TV - are death threats really necessary???

I get it - it's Bristol Palin. She's Sarah Palin's daughter. There's allegations that the voting is being driven by people who like her mother's politics more than about dancing. Frankly - if you have open phone voting like this, just like with American Idol, you don't always get the most talented/best dancer or singer. But from what I've seen (don't watch it, just read the recaps) she hasn't been in the bottom too often either.

DWTS isn't like American Idol or quite a few other reality shows. When it's done someone gets a trophy and they go on being who they were before. They don't get their big break for winning.

So is it really necessary to wage death threats against Bristol and her dance partner Mark? Is is really necessary to send a threat with white powder (turned out to be talcum powder)? Is this show that darn important to do this???

Is reality TV necessary?

One has to ask why... It is a Dance show not anything meaningful( not that death threats are ever a appropriate response

The threats are stupid but there are always such things..I think ET just tries create even more drama by publicizing the death threats as such a big deal, when really all stars probably get them.

And I liked Bristol from the beginning, she was just so fun to watch. I would have voted for her, if I didn't have anything better to do than text my vote for reality TV shows

And can I just that say that Max on DWTS is pure perfection??? Seriously I need to marry him ....

Beyond stupid. So pointless. Makes me wonder if someone is just doing it for attention.

All the controversy over this has me a bit embarrassed actually. The entire rest of the world can see US newscasts on satellite, and right now they are wondering if this is all Americans have to worry about.

As for the death threats, I wouldn't be surprised if they went either way. From the Palin camp to continue playing the victim card, from an opposition camp, or from just a whacked out DWTS fan.

I can't stand the Palin's. That being said, I think the death threats are ridiculous and stupid. If you don't like her, like me, don't watch the show. It's easy.

I haven't watched an episode. Of course, I'm pretty much over that show anyway.

Clearly whoever sent it is an unbalanced nut job. I don't know anyone who thinks it was right in any way, or who found it funny. Every person I've talked to about it is appalled.

I enjoyed watching her develop as a dancer and gain confidence. I didn't vote this year except for one week and I did vote for her as well as Kyle. I just enjoyed watching Kyle & Lacey perform.

As for Maks, he's a diva! I can't believe he threw a temper tantrum in front of the judges and America on national TV. Very unprofessional. I'm so glad he and Brandy got voted off.

I know I'm thinking they might not have him return for another season...

That person should be ashamed of himself/herself.

I always thought of competition dancing as a graceful and co-ordinated demonstration of athetic ability. Somehow the show doesn't seem consistent with that to me. The studio audience would be more appropriate at a Bruins-Flyers game.

I don't get the whole concept of Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and shows like that. To me, it's just a popularity contest and really doesn't have much to do with who is truly talented. If you're a good-looking guy, chances are you're going to win American Idol, not withstanding some of the females who have won. It seems like more of a popularity thing and nothing to do with actual talent.

And dear lord, shows like the Bachelor(ette)? It shows just how low the American viewing public has sunk! (Although, to be fair, I think some of those shows are spin-offs from British television?)

Not fond of the Palins at all; she scares the crap out of me and the mere idea of having her as President makes me shudder. Her daughter is simply her daughter, nothing more, nothing less. She can't help who her mother is.

And I wonder, too, if the rest of the world thinks we've completely lost our minds.

The whole thing is moronic.

Although, since I don't waste my time watching any of them, maybe my own isn't worth anything either.

It's not just American (or British) television that's swamped with stupid reality shows. Germany is just as bad. More channels mean a greater demand for content, and the so-called reality shows are cheaper and faster to produce than series, movies, etc.. This is one of the reasons why I barely watch TV nowadays.

My money is on the whacked out DWTS fan.

Do folks who do this sort of crap ever visualize that they are threatening an actual person, who lives and breathes, has happy moments in life, and sad, and actually has a toddler who depends on her?

I think, increasingly, people have just lost all capacity for empathy for another human being. Who can't help who her mom is.
