Hello,

I am new to this site and found you when I was trying to research on a problem that recently started (about a month ago). I'll try to make this short and sweet since it is a tad complicated. In 1996 I adopted Teeny who lived with me at my mom's house along with her cat Ginger. In 2000 I moved to a new apartment with my bf and did not take Teeny due to him having carpet/furniture scratching issues. So, I adopted a new kitty to keep us company. His name was Mickey and he is part Siamese and fairly territorial. We had gotten 2 other cats for playmates for Mickey but one accidentally got out and never found his way home, and the other, we found out, had been spraying (even though he was neutered) for quite some time. Eventually, in about July, or so, of 2001, we adopted William (who is only 1 month older than Mickey). We figured William would be a good playmate and friend for Mickey. After about a week of hissing, they became such good friends that they were like brothers. In September of 2002 we moved and took the boys with us. There was no problem at all and it took no adjusting on their part...they were both content and happy as usual. We stayed in this apartment until June of 2003 when we decided to move back with my mom (and Teeny and Ginger). Surprisingly, everyting was pretty much smooth...until about a month ago.

One Saturday morning I woke up and cold not find William anywhere...we all loooked for him and called him all day. Come to find out that Teent was able to pry the outside door open and William was able to get out before my Dad caught it happening. William wound up being outside the whole day when finally at around 11:00pm we called for him again and he came to us from my neighbor's patio. As soon as him came in, Mickey started with the hissing. I figured maybe it was because William had a strange scent on him or something from being outside. I assumed it would go away after a few days. Well, the problem is, it still hasn't gone away...over a month later. Mickey does not hiss at Teeny, in fact, he sleeps and plays with Teeny. William is so sweet and never hisses back or swats. Teeny is friendly toward William also. It just that Mickey continues to swat and hiss at William. I don't know what to do...they were like brothers until this. Can someone please giove any advice? I am going to start with the feliway plug-in's and see if they tames him.

You can try and make them all "same scented" Using vanilla extract, put some under each of their chins and between their shoulder blades and on the base of their tail and see if they helps rid them of the alien scent.

Thank you for your advice. I just finished putting vanilla extract on all of them. I'll let you know what the outcome is.
