Just for a check up AND to get micro-chipped. I'm nervous about it because it'll be stressful (for me anyway) and I don't want it to set our relationship back again. BUT it needs to be done--so onward we go.
I know that the ONLY time she was ever at the vet was when she got spayed several years ago. And she is an older gal so I'm asking for input on what I should be concerned about the vet checking out...
I usually have a list of questions i take with me when I take my kitties to the Doc, but just getting over the flu--I can't think too clearly yet. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to toss them our way. xxoo Thank, Cheryl and Emmy. You know the last time I went to the vet...was to say goodbye to Genesis...

If Emmy has any favorite treats, I'd bag a few up and let the vet offer them to her (I bring turkey). Also, I read once bringing a towel from home and putting it on the exam table, if ok with vet, is often reassuring to a cat.

This is probably more the intro exam - I'd think vet will definitely check mouth and teeth, palpitate her all over, check her temperature, and talk to you regarding what you want done in the future (rabies shot, let's say, perhaps some boosters of the core virus vaccinations), blood panel work, that sort of thing. Are you bringing a stool sample? Oh, ask them to look at her anal glands, if she'll cooperate! If possible, I think getting a base line blood panel done would be a fine idea - if not this visit, the next one.

I'd maybe type up a little Emmy history to just hand the vet - I know I always forget items when I'm there!

Good luck to you both!

Actually, I'd ask to have a "senior" blood panel done - it includes a few more tests on liver and kidney function, and gives you a better baseline. We had the Sr. Panel done on all of our kitties when they were three.

You might want to ask them to clip her nails - that way it gives you some more time before you have to give it a go. Do you know if it's a problem for her?

I'd discuss what you're feeding her, ask how her teeth look, and I'd bring in a stool sample just to make sure (she wasn't indoor/outdoor, right?). If she did any mouse catching, she may need drontal for tapes.

I'd also spray the crate with Feliway tonight.

...and our kitties were always so relieved to be back home, they didn't get mad about the visit.
it's the same for Emmy!

for BOTH of you!

I can't add to what everyone suggested except that I hope the vet visit goes well for both of you. Feel better.

I know that first trip after saying goodby is tough. Been through it many times myself.

I hope it all goes well for Emmy. If it sets things back, they will bounce back just as quick.

Good luck.
