Silent heat?

Queen Eva is either 5 months old or a week or two older, my vet and I are on the fence about it, as she is so small, but her adult teeth are in.

Queen Eva has gotten very vocal the past day and a half, and extremely lovey. The vocalizations are not quite what I would say is calling, but are louder and more distinct than what is normal for her.

There is no posturing and no excessive washing of the nether regions and no discharge, but she is...different.

I've put a call in to my vet asking her about getting the spay scheduled and over with.

Do you all think she could be having a silent heat?

It's been so long since I've been through this..20 years, in fact. I just keep getting more and more anxiety ridden over it. I don't want her to have even one heat (unless it's too late).

Up until Queen Eva came I didn't know my vet was of the school that later is better with spays. I would have had her done two months ago if my vet would have been willing.

Well I've just talked to my vet and it's all set up.

Next Monday, November 29 she goes in. I've talked it over at great length with my vet, I'm having pre-anesthetic blood work, IV fluids, buprenex for pain. They keep her overnight and I will bring her home Tuesday morning.

My gosh I cannot wait until this is over. I haven't been through this in 20 years. Jennie's was different, I was not yet deeply emotionally invested in her yet, as she was trapped and whisked in before we'd had anything more than human-feeding-stray interaction.

And when she came home of course it was a brand new situation for her and she lived in the bedroom for two weeks.

Jennie nursed her (phantom) kittens for three days after she came home from her trap/spay, and then began to wean them for another three days by leaving food in her dish, even though I know she was very hungry and making up for lost time, and by the 8th day had forgotten all about them.

Tolly will be very upset when Queen Eva doesn't come home next Monday night, but I guess we will all survive.

Vibes for Queen Eva!

Oh dear...I remember you telling us how Tolly is when a kitty leaves in the carrier. Doesn't he wait by the door for them to return? Too bad he can't go and be with her overnight. It would be a comfort for both of them, wouldn't it?

Well, I know you will be glad when it's over, and that you will worry your heart out the entire time she's gone, too.

that all goes well for your sweet baby girl (and Tolly too!)

Glad its all set! I was told by first vet older is better(he went to 6 month min to Neuter)

Then the next vet was anything over 4 months.
And current is anything over 8 weeks. Shes got tons of experience doing shelter cats/kittens so that makes me VERY relaxed.

First heat even tho obviously possible to get pregnant has always been very low key for my first kittens. It was only my neutered very late ex stray that let me know something was up(ya by getting on top....)

It will go fine and at least its a once in a life thing!!!

Thank you! Yes, it's Tolly who gets so anxious when I leave with a cat in the carrier. Ever since I left with his Bibbs, and she never came back, he gets so upset.

I am telling him, now, all the time that next Monday Queen Eva is going away overnight but will be home right after he has his breakfast on Tuesday morning.

(I have also asked Ootay and my other Bridge Angels to not send me any more kittens ever, I just cannot go through this again!)

Just thinking about having to leave her there makes my eyes well up, ugh!

Not sure if it will work but I got some wipes from petstore. Comfort zone made to wipe down the carrier to make cat feel less stressed. Was using them to wipe traps trying to get some kittens(ghost kittens as never saw them was just told of them...)

Did trap my feral MANY times so who knows. She didnt go in trap to be spayed(let her in window and cornered her)

Thank you! Yes, a once in a life time thing, thank goodness. I find myself worrying about the silliest thing..Queen Eva has this precious crescent of gossamer white on her abdomen. Will it grow back just as sweet and soft after she is shaved?

So silly to worry about something so aesthetic.

But look how sweet it is!

I never get over the shock of how young they spay the kittens at the shelter. These tiny little things have their shaved bellies. They can't be much more than 8 weeks.

My Tonya had kittens right after she came to the shelter, and they said she was only 6 months then. So it was probably from her first heat. And I think that is why she's so tiny. Too young for motherhood!

I'll be thinking about you and your little one, Otto, next Monday. I'm sure it will go fine.

I don't like the idea of surgery at 8 weeks, they're just so tiny. Of course shelters have to do it, but for my own pets I don't think I would. For females, I prefer 12-14 weeks. They do recover so much faster when they're younger. My vet likes to wait for 5 months to spay/neuter, but I can get him to do it younger by saying (when he asks how old they are) "I dunno, 4 or 5 months, maybe". I once brought in a 14-week-old female and he didn't say anything about it.

Best wishes for Queen Eva! Her tummy spot should grow back just fine .

Just dropped her off. Didn't sleep a wink last night. Flipped and flopped all night and couldn't get the song "Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting" out of my head. Awful awful night. I'm a mess.
