I chomped on a little fudge cup that was in my ice cream tonight (nom nom nom), and felt like I almost dislocated my jaw. 2 hours later my jaw is still feeling really sore. Not only that, but a tooth in that area now has a sharp pain that is also kinda uncomfortable.

I hate going to the dentist, and I hate having stuff done to my mouth so please send vibes that it's nothing and the pain goes away. I don't want a root canal!!!!!

Ouch! I've been pretty lucky not to have many dental problems (knock on wood!), so I'm not sure what the problem would be, if anything.

So, I am sending many many vibes that you wake up with no pain and no worries!!!

Ouch! I hope your mouth feels better soon!!

I'm not a huge fan of dental offices eithor. I actually went earlier in the week to a new one (I was overdue for a cleaning/checkup) and had a very pleasant experience though. The hygenist was very gentle and so was the dentist. I think that helps

In the past when I've been nervous about trips to the dentist, I take my Ipod along so I can listen to music and relax a little. I also ask for them to put a topical numbing gel on my gums before they ever touch me with a needle/etc! (that makes a huge difference!) - for anything that involves drilling, I ask for the nitrus first before the lidocane shot too...I can normally handle pain, but my mouth is unusually sensitive, so I've found all of those work together for a pretty pain-free dental trip! Hopefully you won't have to go, but if you do, definitely take an Ipod and ask for a topical before they look at you.

Biting on the frozen chunk probably just made your jaw move in a way that strained the jaw muscle. I doubt it's a cavity so bad you'd need a root canal if you just now are noticing pain. Cavities are painful long before they get to the root canal stage. Feel better soon!

You really should go to the dentist.

However, why not go and buy Sensodyne toothpaste and see if brushing your teeth a few times with it helps calm the nerve pain.

Note, that for it to have any long lasting effect, you have to use it regularly. I have very sensitive teeth and it's the only toothpaste that I use.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I hope your teeth feel better. I hate dealing with dentists too and I know I should go. My wisdom teeth are coming in and somedays I feel like my head is going to explode from the pain but I suck it up cuz I'm scared to have them taken out.

I hope it's nothing serious and that the pain will go away soon!

My dentist know that I'm a huge wuss when it comes to my appts with him. I go for my cleaning every six months and I hate it. And when I do need something done, he'll give me two valium tablets. I take one the night before the appt and the second one about an hour or so before my appt. My MIL usually takes me to my appt then. Til I get to the office, I feel pretty goshdarn good by that point!

For my regular cleanings, I'm good and I don't need any Valium. But when I need a root canal or something like that, the drug helps to take the edge off. Several years ago, I needed an operation to remove a wisdom tooth that was growing into the roots of the molar next to the new tooth. Valium worked wonders. I was awake the whole time, no gas and it was fine.

I really, really hate going to the dentist, so I feel your pain!

Ouch hun! Vibes coming your way!

I too hated dentists for years after a really bad childhood experience. A few years back I broke a tooth while eating and knew I had to see a dentist. I went to one who was recommended to me by a friend at work and I ADORE her. She is young, fun, kind, compassionate and ALWAYS makes sure I am pain free. On and the dentist chair? It massages!
Now I don't mind going to the dentist at all!

Whew, the pain did go away overnight, must have just been related to the almost dislocating my jaw!

A friend recently started getting sharp pains late at night that turned unbearable through the night, went to the dentist in the morning and ended up with a root canal which is why I was worried.

Orajel toothache gel is also good! I broke a tooth a few weeks back, and was sure it was going to get sensitive, but so far, so good. Dentist wants to crown it, but I don't have dental insurance right now, so I'll wait awhile.
