F1 Savannah joins our family

Rescued this boy from being euthanized. He's rough around the edges and threatens to bite sometimes, most likely because his first owner 4 paw de-clawed him.

As you can see he is stunning and accepts us enough already to allow me to take pictures of him. I hope he will learn to trust us completely and accept us as his permanent family.

WOW...he is stunning!! Hope you can work with him and get him to trust you.

Bless you for saving his life. From what I've read about you, Nial, I believe you and your wife are just the right people for the job. You have a heart of gold, and will be repaid for it someday.

I thought it was against USDA regulations to de-claw captive wild cats? Do F-1 Savannahs count as wild cats or domestic?

Anyway, he's gorgeous! How big is he?

G'mornin everyone and thanks for all your comments. The first owners named him Caesar, but spelled it wrong on his registration.
Second owners named him Simba, which I don't care for particularly, but for now, to give him a small sense of normalcy, we're calling him Simba.

The good news is that he is 10 times sweeter this morning. He ate all his food and used his litterbox. He let Teri and I pet him this morning and enjoyed it without acting like he wanted to rip our throats out.

I know our regular crew in the house thought we had a cougar in the back bedroom yesterday evening. They were all wide eyed and would only venture half ways down the hallway. I expect they'll be playing footsie under the door in a day or two.

That's a good question. I believe because he's only half African Serval he would fall into the domestic category for the USDA. I personally don't consider him domestic, he's quite large, nearly the size of a medium sized dog and has some rather large fangs. I imagine his claws were impressive. At this point I certainly wouldn't trust this cat around any of our other pets or any small children.
We'll see how he does after we socialize him. He was very upset last night about his new situation. But he loved the 3 hour car ride to our home, so I have some hope that he just needs to be exposed to a big variety of things in order to build his confidence.

What a beautiful cat! You have great hearts to save this great boy.

Do you think he might like some of those dried chicken filet treats? I will bring him some.

He sounds like a scared little guy who needs to be treated with love and respect, and I know you have plenty of both to give him.

Poor misunderstood kitty, what they did to him. He deserves SO much better than that.

I'm really glad to hear how well he's responding to your raw feedings. Once he's totally comfortable, he's going to be AWESOME as a fur-friend.

He really is gorgeous - good luck socializing him! He'll probably settle down quite a bit in a few days or weeks with you, and become a real baby.

Poor guy!
He's so lucky to have been taken in by someone who will treat him right!

He is absolutely gorgeous.

Wow he is stunning. Absolutely gorgeous. I would love to visit a cat like that. I say visit because he is too much cat for this household full time for that many years.
Three homes already? Poor dude. I guess people couldn't handle him. I am amazed a vet would declaw a big cat like him.

Regal and stunning! He is absolutely awesome!

I think this cat is so lucky to have you. I am glad he is starting to like you better. Why was he given up? How where you lucky enough to adopt him? I have a nonstandard F3 that I love to death. But boy is he a handful. I can not imagine what your boy is like. Any stories you care to share would be great.

He's just stunning. I love F1 savannahs, there's just so much wilderness in how they look. And you can see the serval markings on his ears!!
