Okay I have an absessed tooth and the swelling is pretty bad its making me look like I got a big piece of tobacco between my teeth and my jaw and it has been causing sinus infections from the infection draining and is evening causing my neck to hurt from the infection building up in my limp nodes and until my workman's comp comes in I cannot pay my copay, which will be a week or so, so what can I do to help it in the mean time. I know they will probably have to take the tooth out as it broke when eating a piece of pecan pie and went to the gum. And uptil rescently I didn't have insurrance. And honestly I am scared of them putting a needle in my mouth as I am terrified of needles. I don't know at this point if I need to go to a doctor or a dentist to get some antibiotics first. And I am wondering can I ask them to put me under for it due to my fear of needles, I mean I have to be held down for something as simple as a tb skin test. And the last time they put an IV in me they had threatened to put me in restraints because I became dizzy and disoriented with the fear and pain from it. But I know how dangerous this infection can get so do I go to the dentist or doctor, and can I ask them to put me under for it.

Sweetie I think you should go to a doctor and get some antibiotics. If the tooth needs to be removed they usually don't do it until after you have had antibiotics. You can always ask to be put under or they can give you something to calm you downb.

Do you have a regular dentist or doctor? In this case, I think you should call one, or both, to ask for their advice. An absess can go very bad very fast - but perhaps there is something they can do before actual treatment. My guess is that you have to go to the dentist for the exam, and he can put you on antibiotics til the actual procedure. And just tell them that you have an fear of pain treatments...if it's your regular dentist, she's probably aware of that. But there are lots of pain treatment options they can use. As mentioned, worst case they'll put you under, but an adult will have to be with you to take you home in that case.

Also, if it's your regular dentist, they'll probably work with you regarding the co-pay, etc. It's in both your interests to get this treated promptly.

The only think I can think of is warm compresses to the side of your face, and swishing your mouth with warm salt water....not sure it'll help that much, but it won't hurt anything, I don't think. But again, I'd definitely put a call into the dentist to ask advice. Good luck - I had an abcessed tooth in high school and still remember the pain.

Thank you, I wasn't sure which I needed to go to for the antibiotics. And I hope they can put me under for taking the tooth out. Another thing that bothers me is my vanity, its a back tooth but still I don't want to be the steriotypical, hillbilly from Kentucky. Its bad enough that I don't wear shoes.

They can give you gas, and you sleep so you will be fine if they have to do anything on your mouth (in the dentist).

If I were you, I would have this checked out asap, as it seems there is a pretty bad infection going on already, and you have to get some antibiotics going. Be with a doctor or with a dentist, please get yourself checked hon.
