Does anyone have any of them?

My daughter wants one for Christmas. I have looked at the knock-offs and none of them resemble my daughter at all but I can get an American Girl doll that does.

Are they worth the price? I was mostly concerned with the hair. She has Barbies who's hair gets all icky after a short amount of time.

I don't have any, but I know some little girls who do. Well, they are teens now, but they used to play with their American Girl dolls a LOT and the dolls still look like new.

Granted...these girls take very good care of their things, it's how they were raised.

What I like about them is that you can customize your doll. But $105.00 is a steep price for a doll. I did work overtime this week for money for the holidays tho......

I have the "Kirsten" American Girl doll. I had to beg for 2 years to get it when I was a kid, but it is still in perfect condition now. I always took really good care of her, probably because I wanted one for so long before I got it. I had gotten a knock off and didn't take nearly as good of care of it, and her hair did get nasty after awhile. I plan to pass it on if I ever have a daughter.

About the hair - I have never taken my American Girl's down from her original hairstyle because I was worried it would never look right again if I did. It is made of some synthetic material very like other realistic looking dolls, but closer to regular hair than a Barbie's. I would suggest getting one that has its hair down straight not up in any style, to prevent that style being stuck in the hair if she wants to style it.

How old? Ages 3-6 really should have Bitty. The older ones can usually handle the regular dolls.

My girls have Bitty, Molly, Samantha and Kit. I personally like the historical dolls better than the ones that look like your child.

Sadly- they're now retiring some of the dolls. Kirsten was retired last year. I think they're going to retire Felicity too. Samantha is being retired at the end of the year. And I have a feeling that Molly's next, she is the last of the original 3 that started the whole thing.

Anyhow, my girls are teenagers now, but they LOVED their dolls growing up. My mil made clothes for them, and I have a container full of clothes. My mom bought them furniture. We have a tea set. We have a cat and a dog, their names escape me right now. And Bitty Bear, I don't know if they even make Bitty Bear anymore.

I was putting things out for a yard sale, and my oldest said "you aren't selling any of our AG stuff are you?" Um NO.

Molly needs to go to the doll hospital. She lost her arm a couple of weeks ago. She's got some pretty loose legs too. But my oldest got her when she was 6, and she'll be 17 in January

I sent off an email to make sure they're still taking care of the "retired" dolls, since we've got Samantha, and they said they'd take them, until further notice. The doll hospital is neat, they come back with a hospital gown, a get-well balloon and a bandaid

IMHO I think they are well worth the price. I never bought another baby doll after we got Molly and Bitty. And my kids could have cared less.

My dtr cut Molly's hair when it got nasty

So she said we really have to send her to the hospital to get fixed- because she's going to need a new head

I don't really know what American Girl dolls are or have an idea how much they cost. But if that's what she wants and its within your budget, I say go for it.

Well, I went ahead and ordered her one.

I bought a "just like me" one. She has strawberry red hair, buck teeth and freckles...just like my little one. The style is a shortish bob.

I am going to make her dad buy an outfit from there that is adorable!

I got the Felicity doll for Christmas after much begging and my mom guild tripping my dad into buying her for me. She still looks almost brand new! I loved that doll. And she was so pretty coming out of the box!

My daughter wanted one of those dolls forever. The year she was nine she saved every bit of birthday, Christmas and whatever money she could earn, because she was gonna buy one.

She saved the $100 - and somehow I held her off buying one, because it was so near Christmas, and I told her "you never know..."

Santa brought her "Kit", the doll from 1934. It was the absolute happiest I have ever seen her. She was then able to spend her saved cash on clothes and accessories - which is the really fun part of having these dolls.

She is now 15; Kit still gets dressed up in some festive outfit each Christmas and is put in our living room as a decoration.

My daughter is only 2 1/2 years old so we aren't American Girl ready. She has plenty of babies and things to go along with them. I am sure when she is older we will get her one. I can't resist her sweet face.
