Cats and balconies

Moving this weekend to a new apartment (long story). Anyways, it is in the middle of an apartment block and the only windows I can open for air circulation are the double set of sliding glass doors on one end. These doors lead to a 3rd floor balcony with a roughly waist high concrete wall/rail.

In my old place I never left the glass door open or allowed Aya on the balcony as I had 2 other windows and a good breeze. She did demo the window screens when she was younger. What can I put in front of the flimsey screen doors in my new place to keep her off the balcony and save the screens, but allow me to open the doors.

Maybe a baby gate would work.

How about a metal or plastic trellis, or fencing that can be cut to size? If you're handy, you could make a wooden frame to fit over the doorway and put an additional screen in it, or a latticework of boards. A piece of wooden privacy fence would also probably work while providing ventilation. Fishing net is another possibility.

I vote for adjustable baby gates. You could stack one on top of the other.

That's plan 2 if for whatever reason the gates don't work.
