Does anyone else suffer from the same ailment as me? Whenever I hear about a new type of cat that I didn't know about before (siamese, ocicat, oriental, persian, maine coon, abyssinian, etc) I feel a VERY overwhelming urge to run out to a shelter and adopt a cat like that. For instance, I was reading about ocicats earlier this week and I am really jonesing to get one now. The thought of training a cat to walk on a leash, come, sit, all those other dog commands, etc sounds amazing. Before this, I was on a siamese kick because of the seal points and their attachment to humans. A Maine Coon would make an awesome body pillow at night and I hear they're just sweethearts, abyssinians have that awesome ticked fur, etc. It's not even different breeds all the time. I see a tortie, spotted, or swril-y cat and I want one that looks like that. I keep having to remind myself that I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and two cats is my limit

I realize most people here probably never played with pokemon cards, but remembr how crazy your kids went wanting you to buy every card for them to complete their collection? That's how I'm feeling about these different cats.

Pokemon was just one in a long line of cards (and other items) that encouraged kids to buy more and more. Think back to baseball cards, to get what they wanted kids would have to buy quite a bit to get the rarer ones.

And no. While I do collect some things I don't have the urge to go get more pets. Maybe because I have so many?
Try having nine cats. The urge to go get more would, hopefully, go away when you start cleaning litter boxes.

Plus, I've been around enough cats to know that breed descriptions are ideals, not a rule. Each cat will have it's own personality and being a particular breed won't stop a cat from simply being who they are. (activity level aside)

Do what I do, I live with my dad and am only allowed to have one cat so I collect cat knick knacks and so I get more kitties but don'thave to clean the litter boxes or the hair.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I don't know a thing about breeds. I can recognize a few by the look, but I know nothing about their traits. I appreciate breeders (good ones!), but my favorite breed is "RESCUE"

I do have an urge to rescue all the strays and ferals I encounter, and it breaks my heart that we have a limit (that we've already exceeded). We just had to release a stray into the feral colony (trapped her to have her spayed only to find out she'd already been spayed) because the shelters are full, the foster network is full, and she's 3 or 4 years old and still acting feral, but not microchipped - and we have no room to foster.

I collect memories of every kitty I can't rescue.
