Todays Question:

Away from home: How often do you go away from home? Meaning overnight or an outing longer than your normal social visiting.........

Example:

I often hitch a ride with my hubby when he has to go out of town for work. He's down to only having to do it once every couple of weeks now (rather than M-F) so I tag along and get a break from homelife. Thankfully his boss doesn't mind that I come, since the company pays the motel room.

So I'm lucky enough to get out 1-2x/month.

If it weren't for dh's work related motel stays, we get out maybe once every 6mos. His work xmas party we stay overnight as we're in the other office so its a 2hr drive for us, and some other event.

How bout you?

Any truckers wives tag along? Do you get to escape the homelife on a yearly vacation? etc etc...

Maybe a couple times a year?? We normally can't afford it. We haven't gone on an actual "vacation" in a long time.

We used to go quite a bit, but in the last few years, we haven't been going much of anywhere. DH does get out about 5-6 times a year, sometimes to Oregon, sometimes to Virginia, for union stuff.....he's on an executive board and has to attend those meetings. And I could go along; they've always been wonderful about spouses going, but I don't fly. If we could drive to Oregon, I'd go!

The last two or three years, my "vacation" has been going to Connecticut to see one of my closest GFs for a weekend. We cram a lot of stuff into that weekend, from cooking together to shopping and, of course, picking apples. Last year, we went on a ghost tour of a cemetery and that was a lot of fun. DH always goes along; he adores her and she him, so it works out well. DH would never think of me going up there alone; he might miss something! He spends an afternoon at the casino and she and I get to spend some time together where we can sit down and chat and shop. It's a wonderful visit and I look forward to that weekend every year.

We keep saying that we want to go to various places, but some of the problem is financial, of course. Some of it is that I don't get a lot of vacation time....DH gets almost seven weeks of vacation; I get three, so I have to space it out. And it's difficult for me to get more than one or two vacation days at a time. The last time I got a full week of vacation was several years ago when we spent a week in Chicago. He had union business and I went along for the ride....yes, we drove. We have close friends in Chicago and Wisconsin and my best friend is a pastor in Minnesota, so it was hard to work it all out, but we all managed to spend some time together.

We have a great petsitter, so that's really not an issue. I call her at night when we're gone, to make sure that everything's OK.

Hopefully, we'll get to do some more things this coming year.

Hmmmm let me think about this...

Never!

We have a trip planned for next year which will probably be our first ever overnight away from Franklin and the kitties. Im already nervous and scared and not because of the flying aspect of it (that will come next year haha) We had one rule when we got Franklin, we get a dog he doesnt get overnights with anyone. Well that makes Gram mad because the one and only dog she actually volunteers to babysit isnt allowed a Grammy sleepover. Bfs brother and gf bug us all the time about letting him sleep over because we always babysit their dog and they want to repay the favor but nope not allowed. The only non worry part of taking an overnight vacation is the kitties because Ive already got a sitter lined up for them who will come over everyday to scoop poop and play with them and Im sure that they will all enjoy having no parents for the trip and will probably throw a party and whatnot the whole time we are gone.

Never.

With 11 cats, two with daily meds, we just don't. Luckily, we don't mind. We do day trips now and then. Once to the state fair, Jamestown, Rochester. Nothing huge. We like to go fishing in the boat. That is a day thing. DH goes quite a lot with our son, so he goes more than I do. I am a home body. Never happier than right where I am.

It's good knowing we can go on these shorter trips, and still sleep in our own bed at night.

It's nice going, but even nicer coming home.

We very rarely do, again because of the amount of cats we have. In the summer we'll go away camping for the weekend occasionally, but really, we rarely venture far from home. Within the next year however we are planning a tropical vacation which we have been REALLY wanting and deserving.

I'm a trucker so I usually end up going out of town about 3 times a week. It's usually not too far, but every once in a while I'll have to go pretty far and I'll be gone for a few days.

Other than that, in the summer I'm at my cabin about every second weekend. And there's an annual camping trip my buddy set up about 4 years ago.

Rarely go anywhere for any extended period of time. Spent too much time driving from track to track for so many years, home is great.

I tend to travel 3-4 times a year for work. Those trips are usually 1-2 weeks long, so I have to get my neighbor or my family to take care of my cats when I go. I also do 1 or 2 trips to see family. Those trips are usually just 1 or 2 nights.

I hate going on the long trips because my cats get fat grazing on the food while I'm away. I've tried having my neighbor feed the cats scheduled, portion-controlled meals like I do when I'm home, but Tiny went on a hunger strike and lost a whole lot of weight. I'd rather they put on a few ounces than risk that happening again and it's a lot less hassle for my pet sitter.

Sometimes we'd go to Tulsa for a concert. Due to the distance and the fact that a concert tends to end after midnight, we'd have to get a room for the night. And that's the extent of it with the cats here that need looking after.

I don't know if we'll even be able to do that again, now. Blann is on his twice daily inhaler and since he was feral born and is skittish DH and I are the only ones that can give him his medication.

Usually once a year for two days when the club goes to a Convention. I'm hoping that I'll be going out of town for a night in December if the club has enough money to go to Myrtle Beach.

In the summer time, BF and I spend many weekends at BF's parents' cabin. We also go on two trips a year- one vacation and one trip to the East coast to visit my parents for the holidays. This year though my parents are coming here, however, I still have to use some of my vacation days for their stay, so only one trip this year! We'd go on more if it weren't for those stupid limited vacation days.

Unless you count the work I had done on my heart back in August and the subsequent week-long hospital stay/stay with Jack's grandparnts while I recovered, the answer would be pretty much never. It's not that I don't want to go out of town, it's just that between the cost and my health lately, it's not practical at this time. My sweet boyfriend has promised me a mini-vacation as soon as the doctors give me the all-clear to travel though, so I'm looking foward to that!

I never used to spend time away from home until I met the BF. Now I am away from home maybe two to three times a week, just overnight. Other times BF stays with me and in between I have my alone time which I cherish.

We've been to his shore home a few times this summer but we have never traveled much further than PA to visit a GF whom I met at another cat board years ago. Other than that, we pretty much stay close to home.

Not as much as I'd like. We had our first real vacation since we got married. We've been married for 9 years and we didn't have a honeymoon so it was nice to get away for the week for our anniversary this year AND to not have it be related to my husbands job or his volunteering.

Often. Probably between 10-12 weekends a year due to showing my cats and judging at cat shows. Luckily I've usually got 2-3 of my cats with me so there is less for my Mum to look after at home
