Hello,
My girlfriend has an old cat (approx 17) that has diabetes.
The cat, Marley, mainly eats wet (canned) food, and has a good appetite.
When we're out at work, is there a good dry food we can leave out?
Many thanks

Richard

Due to No one on here being a Vet ( and if someone said they were a vet or a tech online I would be leery ) no one can answer that for you... Please consult the cats vet with this question, he/ she will be able to answer it ... The reason is suggesting a food to you for a cat with a Medical issue would be like practicing...

This forum has a Number of Rules you okayed to follow... Rule 1
1. No online advice can replace direct veterinary intervention. If you suspect that your cat may be ill, please contact your vet immediately. You are welcome to look for advice in the health forum while waiting for that appointment, but never delay proper veterinary care waiting for Internet advice. Remember that cats, and especially kittens, are very adept in keeping pain to themselves and delaying treatment may cause irreversible damage.

In your case you have a Chronically ill animal and were asking for info that while many on here have None are willing to endanger you kitties life

Richard, I am sorry you feel this way...
But unlike the people on the other forum, who didn't give you correct information to begin with, we are not going to do this with you. You got one reply there in regards to Dry food... which you could gotten easily by a Google search, and that information was incorrect.
But it is neither here or there...
There ARE dry foods for diabetic cats, of course there are... Purina DM is only one that come in mind... But they are prescription foods that you have to get from the vet anyways.
About leaving wet food out for a few days? Down right dangerous...
So... You have a diabetic cat, a chronically ill, delicate to balance kitty, the responsible thing to do, is to get a diet from your vet.
No dry food from a pet store will do it... But to answer your question, any vet will be able to help you with a Dry diabetic diet.
My vet uses Purina DM (dry) with (what he says, I have no experience) fantastic results.

As Carolina says, we here at TCS are very careful not to give out medical advice since we are not qualified. Anyone can get all sorts of information out there on the web but that doesn't mean it will be correct information, and, in fact, some of the information is downright wrong and dangerous.

We, here at TCS, love our cats very much and only want the very best care and advice for them.

I too am sorry you are disappointed you didn't get the advice you were hoping for but I only hope you will take your cat to a qualified veterinarian to get proper medical advice.
