I got a flyer in the mail recently trying to sell me a collection of cat figurines. You can the web site for it here:

http://www.willabeeandwardproducts.c....asp?code=2355

I think the figurines look really cute and it comes with a display case to match, but I'm a little dubious about it and I was wondering if anyone else had bought figurines through this kind of set-up. I don't really like the whole get one or two figurines in the mail each month setup - I'd rather just buy a whole set at once - and I'm also wondering if I will get spammed to death by the seller if I buy something from them. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this type (of particular set) and if there's not a better (and maybe cheaper) way to pick up a collection like this.

That gets to be a investment at $15 x 25 figurines. They are small too. I would only order one if possible to see what it looks like and decide from there.

I would look for them on eBay. My Sil bought a doll collection from (I believe) the same company you are talking about, and it was quite expensive.

I suspect they got my name from the Cat Fancy mailing list. My neighbor got one too, and she's also a CF subscriber.

I like the small size. Maybe a little bigger would be OK, but I want the whole collection to be a single knick-knack, not something that takes up my entire (non-existent) mantel. I can get the first one for $5 total, but at that point they've got my CC info, so I'd be leery of doing that unless I knew they were OK. Some of those places will just automatically send new pieces every month and make it very difficult to discontinue. I'll look around on Craigslist/eBay, and maybe some reputable internet stores to see if I can find a similar set that's cheaper and is less likely to come with strings attached.

These collections are usually a bad investment. If you want to buy something just because you like it, fine, but it is almost always impossible ever to make any money at resale.

$365.00 total? Yikes! Let's hope the company doesn't go out of business the next year before you get them all (if you get them).

I agree with jennyranson don't buy this as an investment. But you can invest the $365.00 in a diverse portfolio and get around 9% return... and use that to buy two cat figurines a year without touching your original $365.00. Just sayin'.
