We don't have a lot of cat shows in my area, so when I heard we had one in Pigeon Forge, TN this weekend, I decided to go check it out. I was really surprised when my friend Darryl who doesn't even own a cat said that he wanted to go, too. There weren't many spectators there (Pigeon Forge isn't a good city for that) and we were obviously non-cat-show people, so we had a lot of owners and judges explaining things to us, which was really nice. I enjoyed seeing the different breeds and I fell in love with one of the Ragdolls and the Birman that was there. I did commit a social faux pas when I asked one lady if her Norwegian Forest Cat was a Maine Coon. I got a detailed explanation of the differences between the breeds.

Here are the pictures from the show. They're not the best since I was trying to take pictures of moving objects indoors without a flash. If I hadn't had my high-end camera with good image stabilization, I doubt I would have gotten anything worth showing at all.

Siberian

Maine Coon

Sphynx

F1 Savannah Female. I didn't think you could show a savannah unless it was at least F4, but the rosettes on the cage make me wonder.

Beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat. I love his big head and the way he looks at you.

Bombay

Sphynx

Another Sphynx

This was the only Russian Blue at the show.

Cornish Rex(?) This cat got best in show for this ring.

More to come

2nd batch of pics:

Grey spotted Bengal kitten

Spotted Bengal kitten

Marbled Bengal kitten

This little guy shot right up the pole. The judge had no problem wrangling him down by waving the feather toy.

American Shorthair (I think)

American Bobtail

I really fell in love with the big Ragdoll on the right (number 15). He and number 13 were playing with each other around the corners of the cages.

Here is the big Ragdoll (15) being judged.

Ragdoll number 15 again. By the way, if anyone knows where I can find a tie like that judge's, let me know. I'd like to get one of those.

Last batch:

Maine Coon. This judge was really great. She saw that there were a couple of non-cat-show people in the audience and she would explain the features of each breed and try to pose the cats so I could get a good shot.

Siberian

Abyssynian

Sacred Birman. Not a very good picture, but such a beautiful cat. It won best of show in one of the rings.

We got a good laugh out of this little Himalayan. He just flopped down into a big pile of fur on the judge's table and didn't move.

Ragdoll (Number 13 from the earlier pictures)

Another Ragdoll. This one had a pretty face with colors that split down the middle of her nose.

Scottish Fold

The exotic got 2nd best in show. The abyssynian in the background (52) got first.

Whoops! I just realized I posted this in the lounge instead of the fur pictures section. If one of you nice mods could move it for me, I'd really appreciate it.

What great pictures! Makes me want more cats (of course, I kind of wanted more anyway). Thank you for sharing.

And full of energy too, even for kittens. I was amazed how similarly cats of the same breed behaved in their cages. The American Shorthairs all just sat on their hind legs, serenely surveying the crowds. The himmy & exotics would sleep, and some of the wilder breeds would knock the numbers off the top of their cages or try to pick a fight with the cat next door.

Thanks, a couple of those look pretty nice, the "Cat Mania" one in particular, so I may pick them up. I really like that color of blue he had with the white Persian on it. It may be a custom job where he sent in a picture and they printed it on the cat though. I think it would be funny to present a paper in front of a room full of scientists with a cat tie on.

Well, there were plenty to choose from. Off the top of my head, I remember seeing signs selling Maine Coon, Bengal, Norwegian Forest Cat, and American Shorthair kittens. If you were on a tighter budget, a lot of the kittens in the Household Pets division were up for adoption, too. We watched the finals for that group and for each one the judge asked the owner for the cat's name and where they came from. Almost every one was either from a shelter or rescued off the street, and several were available. One cat had a name like "Mile Marker 160, Interstate 40." The judge just smiled and said, "Oh yeah, I heard that story."
