Is it too early to decorate for Christmas?

We haven't decorated for Halloween for 3 years; this year suddenly all the weekends in October became busy, and last year, we had a family crisis and were barely home for Halloween (no decorating OR costume making that year ).

SO... The house is clean and I'm ready to decorate! It's too late for Halloween (right?...) and we already had Thanksgiving here in Canada. This Christmas we are using our blue and silver decorations for the second time (only!) and I LOVE the icy decorations! I can't wait! What should I do?

That's a tough one. We usually wait until the week after Thanksgiving, but that's American Thanksgiving. That's always been the catalyst, so I don't know what I'd do if Thanksgiving were moved!

Yeah, it's in early October here. And if you wait until December to decorate, those weekends get busy really fast, too. The last (and first) time we used the silver decorations was 3 years ago, I don't even remember everything we have, I can't wait! (I don't think my husband wants to come home to Christmas just yet, unfortunately.)

My tree goes up when the city has their xmas pageant, which was on Saturday so my tree went up Sunday along with indoor lights around the windows. Outdoor lights will go up this coming weekend.

If you want to decorate your house for Christmas in July, then decorate your house! Who cares what anyone else thinks?

I have Christmas lights around my window all year long and turn them on at night periodically, no matter what the time of year.

If you want to decorate your house now, go for it! But please post pictures!!!

LOL! Just care what my husband thinks, he's not big on decorating too early. But it's encouraging that missymotus has decorations up already... I will post some pics.

Maybe I should just put up the icy stuff now, stockings and tree, etc. in December!

Decorate! Decorate! Decorate!

(And then post lots of pictures please )

It's never too early I've put up a few decorations but I'm doing the rest this weekend along with our tree

I guess its whatever makes you happy. My mom used to love to decorate for Christmas, and at one time I did too. But now its all just too hassle, you put it up, you have to take it all back down again

If I were to put up decorations now, I would be sick to death of them by the holidays.

My 7 year old put up her little tree in her room. Mom It is after halloween you know

YES!!! It's too early here in the U.S.

My mother used to hate it when they put up any decorations before Thanksgiving. Dottie is the same way.

I was at one of our stores last week, and Christmas music was on the PA!!!! AUGH!!!!

And I DO love Christmas, really!

Hey, why not! I have to do it next week myself, as our family can only get together on 11/27. It just feels so weird, though. I never decorate until after 12/1, and I just can't get into the Xmas spirit. I'm already sick of Xmas music in the stores! I was off today, so I wrapped gifts. It's almost surreal!

Decorate! I just did yesterday

I want to buy our tree this weekend and start decorating maybe the day after Thanksgiving if I can hold out that long.. Growing up, the weekend after Thanksgiving was decorating time. My mom goes all out on exterior decorations, but we might only have a couple things, if I can talk hubby into putting some lights on the porch. No one ever sees our house anyway.

Here's a quick PhotoBooth picture of the fabric I'm going to use to make slipcovers for our throw pillows. It's a batik with sparkly silver snowflakes (sorry not a great picture).

What beautiful material. I don't decorate for Christmas, however I leave some Christmas decorations out all year. (That sentence made a lot of sense. ) What I mean is, I have nutcracker that was given to me by a good friend on my bookshelf in the kitchen, as well as a ceramic church candleholder that my former nursing supervisor gave me for Christmas. And a metal rocking horse surrounded by holly leaves, also a gift, from one of my favorite cousins. If decorating now would make you and your family happy, I think you should do it!

My family is decorating this weekend at a family member's request.

I put my tree up yesterday because I was bored. LOL Gigi is having a field day up in the tree now...Even Bacon is playing around the tree.

WAY to early!! I am sick of it already with all the TV adds and some radio stations are playing Christmas music. Good God, whatever happened to waiting until after Thanksgiving? Now, if I was going to put outdoor lights on my house, I would take advantage of the still rather decent weather and put them up, but would not light them until about 2 weeks before Christmas. Decorating 2 months before the holiday takes away the thrill and excitement IMO. I no longer even bother with it, because the time Christmas is here, I am burned out with it. I save a lot of money that way too

We started doing the decorating about Nov.4th!! Reason? Son and DIL coming in from Japan with new grandchild!!

What did we see the very morning we put the tree up? The little Spring all curled up IN the tree asleep

When I was off work on Veterans Day, I decorated the kitchen a little bit. My holiday dishes are Winterberry from Pfalzgraff and I have a lot of pieces to that pattern. I like to display them on our hutch, along with old cookie cutters and rolling pins. And some of my Christmas cookbooks.

We usually put our Christmas trees up the weekend of Thanksgiving. They're artificial trees, so they can be up for quite a while. DH goes outside to decorate the house and yard with lights that weekend, too.

Although with all the wonderful weather we had last week, I'm sure many people were outside decorating.

I dearly love Christmas!

Love the fabric!
I say go for it! I've joked (sort of) to DH about setting up the tree soon. I usually do it around our anniversary (first week of Dec.) but for some reason I feel the need to do it earlier this year. It takes me several days just to decorate the tree because of back problems; I get the tree up and anchored one day, the next day the lights go on, the next the decorations.
I start decorating for Halloween in Sept., so why not for Christmas in Nov.?

GORGEOUS material!

If I recall correctly, in a thread about early Christmas decorations in stores and malls, you said that you and DH give each other a kiss every time you see Christmas decorations up when you're out? So it'll just be more reasons to kiss even more frequently!

That's right, Christmas music, too, gets a quick kiss. See that Santa statue at the garage sale in July, next to the waxy holly-wreathed candle? Anything Christmas outside of December gets a "Merry Christmas, Darling" with a "Merry Christmas Baby" and a kiss. Hug works, too.

My rule of thumb: if you've got a jack-o-lantern on your step, then it's too early to decorate for Christmas.

That is possibly the sweetest thing I've ever heard! Made me smile!
