I want to buy my daughter a new camera. Is is possible to get one in the one hundred dollar price range. She just wants something to take a decent picture with, nothing fancy. I have looked at one by Kodak at Target and one by Canon at Sams Club. I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

I bought an Olympus about a year ago for about $100 at Radio Shack. It takes nice pictures but it's nothing fancy. This was my very first digital so didn't want anything too elaborate.

I have a silver Olympus Stylus 1030SW and I love it!! It was a gift several years ago and I just this week got the equipment to go with it actually. I had moved several times and I couldn't find the proper things to connect the memory card to my computer, so it sat tucked away in my electronic draw until recently. Since I got the memory card reader, I've used it every day now I will definitely be sticking to this vs. my cell phone camera from now on!

Since mine was a gift I'm not sure exactly how much it cost, but I did just google it and it seems a bit out of the price range you're looking in. That being said, if you're shopping around for a good camera I would look for an Olympus that is a little less pricy. They're good cameras from my non-professional standpoint

I bought my mom a fujifilm finepix last year and it has been a great, compact, little camera that takes so pretty awesome pictures!

Hi,

I had gotten my daughter a Nikon Coolpix a few years ago for a trip she was taking overseas. It's a great camera - easy to use, takes great pictures, compact, etc. I'm not sure you can pick one up for $100 but I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I know very little about digitals, having never owned one myself - but I'm thinking of getting a newer model of the Coolpix for myself. Best of luck with your shopping!

The only thing you should look out for, and I don't know if it applies now, is the software needed to download pics. I had an Olympus years ago and needed special software to get the pics.

I have a Nikon Coolpix and I am very pleased with it.

**To add to below

Also make sure it takes SD cards over brand specific memory cards. Most computers now days read SD/SDHC cards that way you can just take out the card from the camera and read the card on your computer.

I'm not sure if you can find it at the same price I did, but I got my Nikon Coolpix L20 from Amazon.com for 70 bucks. It's a GREAT little digital camera. There are other models that may be cheaper but the original price was around 150 or so. I got it around Christmas last year I believe. Good luck! (I love Amazon!!)

I have a Kodak EasyShare and I have to say I hate it. I bought it at Walmart for around $80 just for a quick point and shoot to keep in my purse. My husband has a different one, a cheapo Fuju Finepix and it works SOO much better than mine does and takes clearer pictures. Most of the time, if we are home and I don't want to pull out my big DSLR I will use his camera over mine. I think I will be getting myself a new p&s for Christmas this year and selling the Kodak on Craigslist.

Yep, this is what my husband has and it does take pretty good pics. He owns his own company and takes his product photos with it (for some reason he won't let me take them with my good camera) and they look pretty good!

I know that feeling! I had an easyshare and it had its moments! Garys sis had one and hers had a short in the flash from day one so it murdered batteries like crazy!
I have a samsung now that I believe has the same problem! But it is mostly strapped to the side of the car for autocrosses! LOL!

I am looking for a new point and shoot because like Kara_leigh, somethings are just not worth the DSLR or need something more compact! A friend that has always been up to date on new photography stuff said to look for a Panasonic. That they were a great little camera! I am gonna keep an eye on this thread though.
