Do try a better vet. Maybe if the eye does have to go you can put it off (until she's healthy enough for it of course) long enough and get her spay at the same time? That would actually save cost in the long run but it means she'd be under anesthesia for longer at one time.

we are definitely going to spay her! maybe doing it at the same time would be better. i think that the eye really may have popped out of socket as the vet suggested. from the side you can see that a little better but i didnt like that vet at all, so i'm going to look around for somewhere else. i will say its amazing how medicine can make such a different in just a day, looking at the other pictures i posted you can definitely see an improvement.

i will post updates.

My cat had a retinal ulcer, and it looked foggy like that (though in a smaller area) and my vet told me a lot of times ulcers are started by an impaction of the retina. It could be that all it is is a bad contact ulcer that became infected. That would give it a better chance of healing than if it were all infection. It concerns me that your vet didn't even take a heartbeat until asked, and that he knew nothing about any of your other questions. Apparently that's what a free coupon gets you... exactly what you paid for

her right eye is very big & bright blue (not in the picture since i caught her while she was sleepy), so the 2 eyes are complete opposite. the damaged one isnt really shapely circle. its so tiny compared to the other eye. what was even worse was he had a very bad accent and couldnt speak english very well so it was even harder to understand. he didnt take her temperature either, and in the diagnose papers he said that he was unable to, along with many other things he was careless to fill out properly. how hard is it to stick a thing in her butt for a few seconds? he is ridiculous and i have intention to file a complaint, its just figuring out how to do it.

its very unfortunate if that is the case; him not helping me help my kitty because i had a coupon. i know that people are really like that, but it wouldnt surprise me seeing as how he was not interested in kitty's health whatsoever. the coupon would only be valid if you bought something else, i found out. when he gave me some more antibiotics i told the lady i wasnt sure if i wanted to buy them yet and she said "well if you dont buy them you'll have to pay for the visit" so some of these vets just want money. its sad.

Such a gorgeous little doll she is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a wee little thing - does look like she needs to grow a bit before any surgery can be done.

But that eye does look like there's something wrong with it developmentally.
Of course - I guess you won't really know what's up with it until you can get her to another vet.

I am so glad you were able to find a caring vet
It is so difficult sometimes. I do realize that it is their profession and livelihood, and I know they have expenses involved, but for someone trying to help a little one I would hope that they would try to help too.

SNAP is a great organization here in Houston for low-cost Spay/Neuter. They are one of my favorite "charities." Their clinic is on Durham right off I-10. They have very good prices on the innoculations and heartworm/flea/tick products, also.

Well I called the head vet to where I took Lylah (we named her!) and spoke to the Partner Vet. I just wanted him to know how this other vet treated me and my kitten. Turns out almost everything that first guy told me was wrong! When he said her eye needed to be removed, he referred me to another place and said that they didn't do the surgery there. The partner vet told my mom that isn't true. So, anyways.. the guy really was worse than I thought. We are taking her back to that place to see the Partner Vet and he's going to look at her thoroughly tomorrow for no charge.

on another note, we name kitty Lylah. we got her back from my mom today, i havent seen her yet because ive been at work but im about to go home to her. my fiance said she is doing well, eating like crazy and even hissing at my other cats. HAHA!

Lylah's eye is getting pretty bad, it's starting to push out or something. she doesn't even close her eye when she sleeps. the vet said she was perfectly healthy other than her eye but we are going to take her to the vet tomorrow to see if they want to remove it. if it pops out I don't know if I can stomach it. it's got some color to it but it's lost shape and it's popping out past her eyelids. does anyone know how old a kitten has to be before they can do eye surgery?

I don't know, but my prayers are with your familiy and this little one. If it helps, your library probably has a copy of Homer's Odyssey - it's a true story about a blind cat - it's truly inspiring. Also, there's a TCS member with a blind (or nearly blind) kitten - another truly inspiring story.

Thank you and your family for not giving up on this baby.

Many vets have a service that will notify them in case of an emergency. I would call and find out. Describe the situation to them and let them decide if this is an emergency that needs to be taken care of now or if it can wait until the morning.

Far as age for surgery I know someone who had a cats hernia repaired as it was quite bad and had the kitten spayed at same time-5-6 weeks old.
I would guess it just depends on how bad it is far as waiting. The normal spay neuter min is 2 lbs but the kitten with hernia was under that for sure.

Good luck! adorable lil one

they are going ahead with the surgery! this morning when we saw her, the eye had drained or something. there was drainage all over her face. so we took her to the vet and they said the eye was pushing itself out and that it really needed to be removed. so, we are going to pick her up later today. i am very nervous but very excited at the same time.
