I should start by saying I'm one of these people who can't let sleeping cats lie...I am drawn to them like a moth to a flame. The flame exception being my cousin's Flame Point Siamese, who does not like company. He sits in his chair, staring with such a look of disdain and hatred that I dare not approach him. I also try not to bother my elderly cat Siamie; even though she loves attention, she doesn't feel well and I want her to get her rest. (She gets all excited and jumps up from the Orca bed if anyone starts to pet her.) I wait until she's up and about to pet her.

Daisy is a touch-me-not cat. She loves to be around people, even ran up to my mom and raised her nose to give a "kiss", but she doesn't seem to like to be petted by me. Sometimes, if she's very sleepy, it's okay. The odd thing I have noticed is that when I am petting her, I feel a mild electrical-like sensation run through my hands. It doesn't exactly feel like static; it's difficult to describe. (A bit of trivia...once I purchased what turned out to be a winning scratch off lottery ticket and felt the same sensation run up my arm when the clerk handed it to me.) I'm wondering how this "sensation" feels to Daisy. It isn't pleasant to me, so it must be worse for her. Can anyone think of ways to prevent this? I don't DH causes this problem when he pets her; either that, or she so in love with him that she's willing to endure it for her man.

I've read not to rub a cat hair in the opposite direction because it feels like a shock to them. I never do this...I'm just talking about soft petting in the direction her hair grows.
