Acute Pancreatitis Vibes please

My heart kitty came down with acute pancreatitis last week. One of the worst cases my vet has ever seen. He has been in critical care since last monday. Today we should find out if he can be saved. There have been several times I came close to the "decision". Each time the wonderful vets have been fighting to save him. If you can spare a thought for him that the blood work comes back with good news today I would appreciate it.

Good Lord. I burst into tears at the clinic. The vet said Zander turned a corner. He is not out of the woods yet and will need daily medication for the rest of his life. But..........

I am trying not to get too excited he could relapse but he looked so good last night. The vet said the next 24 hours would tell the tale so my fingers are still crossed.

As a sad side note I have to give all the kudos in the world to those emergency vets and the technicians. This week going to the emergency clinic I saw more pets come in that did not make it out. I found myself crying with strangers and I saw in the vets eyes the grief that they couldn't do anything. I don't know if I could work there but I have tons of respect for them.

I'm so glad to hear the good news about Zander! (I've been known to burst into tears over good news, too)

Yes I worked in a vet clinic once. I lasted one week. I was so depressed every day, when I got home I would just sit and cry for a half an hour. It upset my cats and I was miserable. I too have a lot of respect and gratitude for those who do that kind of work.

Keep us posted on your boy Zander!

Glad to hear that the news so far is good.

Glad to hear the update....will keep those prayers coming for Zander. I marvel at how people can work at a clinic.

When I am at the vets and someone comes in with a box and are noticably upset, it just ruins my day as well.

One year I got a box of holiday cookies from Trader Joe's and drove over to the ER vet just to drop them off for the staff - when people complain about the cost of the visit (and, I know from experience, it hurts the wallet), I think about the doctors and staff working all these weird hours and seeing, usually, only the sickest of the sick. My hat is also off to them.

Maybe I should do it again this holiday. Thanks for the reminder.
