How to prevent...

People from dumping cats off on your property? Within a few days we have had a tiny (very emaciated) kitten in a box dumped (Ramona we have dubbed her), and a probably 4 month old extremely friendly black kitten that showed up a couple days before her (hes been dubbed Lucifer). Its extremely impossible to find homes for cats and kittens in my city (its very overrun and cats breed all year long, all year is kitten season here.) so we have 2 more cats, so between our now 14 and our neighbors 15 we have almost 30 cats! People see us as an alternative to the kill shelters, and dump cats off here. I dont even know what
To do about it, it has to end eventually! We cant take care of everyones unwanted cats because they are irresponsible pet owners!

Your pain is felt here!

I sure don't have a solution as to how to manage idiot people.

How about a sign = "Rescue Center Full - NO VACANCIES!!
Be responsible Neuter/Spay your Pets!"

I know, I'm sorry, just venting a little with that suggestion.

That's all I can think of, some sort of sign. You could put a sign up saying you have a hidden camera and anyone who dumps a cat will have the police called. Something like "POSTED: This area under surveillance. Anyone caught dumping an animal will be reported to the police" I'm assuming it would have the same effect as those fake "This house protected by ADT" stickers and signs people put on their front doors or in their front lawns.

so so sorry to hear that. Do you have a farm or a barn? Perhaps they saw cats. In many states it is illegal to dump animals. I agree that a sign that camera surveillance is in use will do the trick. You can even buy a dummy camera.
What will you do?

Well, what I do is never put litter pails out to the garbage unless in the garbage totes. It's a dead give away. In fact, I go so far as bringing new ones in the back door in case someone driving by sees it. Call me paranoid, but honestly those yellow pails screem "cats live here".

My kitties outdoor enclosure is around the back of the house, and we have no one behind us.

It is such a problem, and it makes me very sad. I wish there was something that could be done about the over population. I just don't know the answer. Very frustrating.
