I feel a bit better knowing they're around during my next visit to my out-of-town parents...

They'll visit Sasha once a day, feed him, clean his litter, "pill him" if required at no extra charge, give him sub-q at no extra charge...as long as I'm fully stocked with food (They will buy extra food at an extra charge) Sasha would be cared for while I'm out of town in the comfort of home...

Tiggy...I can bring with me. He's younger and can handle travel better than Sasha...

$20.00 a day for peace of mind!

The price sounds fair for the peace of mind. Personally, I don't like the idea of a stranger, or anybody in our house taking care of 3 cats, 3 dogs, and 3 aquariums. Fortunately only one of us goes out of town. Maybe just paranoia, but anything can go wrong. Anything like plumbing, electrical, or a UFO coming through the roof.

I know what you mean about having someone in; but I've got friends who travel a bit during the year. They got references from friends, conducted an in-home interview with the sitters, and are very happy with them. They sound a lot of the ones Luke found. With cats, if you can find a good sitter, I think it's worth it.

Also, a lot of sitting services will do things like bring in the paper, turn lights off and on randomly - give the place a lived in look as well.

Luke, if you could, I think it'd be worth an extra $20 to have the sitter come to the home so you could check them out, and so that their scent is in your home while you're still around before your trip.

Oh that's wonderful that you have found someone. I'm just assuming you've met the sitter and s/he has already been to your home and met Sasha? Checked references and licensure and all?

I wish I had someone like that around here, just in case. I have a friend who pet sits by profession, and she specializes in special needs cats. If she lived near me I'd never worry again, but she lives on the other side of the country.

I haven't been away from home overnight in over 8 years. I don't mind at all, but it would be nice to know, if I HAD to be away, there was someone I trusted to come in and see that my babies are taken care of.

I guess I'm lucky to have access to a lot of pet sitter agencies. I use one that is bonded and insured. They come and see you, have you fill out a questionnaire, for each pet, meet the pets, get shown where everything is and how to do it, etc. (There is a regular visit charge for this). You don't have to have this visit except the first time, or if it has been a long time since you last used them. They will also administer meds, take in the paper, open and close drapes, etc. Last time I used them it was only $16.00 a visit. These people do this out of animal love more than to make much money.

When away you can get updates by e-mail or phone. They leave you a written report each day. They take vet info and will call you if there is any problem with the house or animals.

I really don't worry about them being in my house - and I'm pretty picky about that, usually.

As a petsitter , my normal kitty charge is 7.50 a visit up to 4 cats ... But 20.00$ sounds like a bargain for giving possible fluids and meds for where you are( prices are much Higher normally and most here would charge up to double that for a very senior cat with possible meds here)... I can attest to this is a profession of love
