What can I do to make a 10 hour trip easier for the new kitty or kitties I'll be bringing back on Sunday? I am borrowing a large pet carrier from a co worker. She used it for a 30 lb dog and says it's big enough for a couple cats and a litter box etc.

I'm taking a blanket. M.A., should I bring a blanket with Peaches' scent on it or wait and do it the other way around as suggested in your article?

Everyone please feel free to give me any tips you think might help!

Make sure to get something with a familuar scent on it. Keep the A/C going and no stopping with the kitty(s) in the car. Bring food so you can snack on the trip without stopping.
Have a tape with classical music on it to play on the way home. Talk to the kitty(s) and let them knnow you are there. Follow the directions from Hissy for introducing cats to the letter. If you give the newbie the new scent it wil be stressed out on the trip.

Good Luck and send photos when you get back!

Thank you! I'm glad I asked about the blanket thing.

And you can count on pictures! I'll probably take pictures of all the cats. Even the ones I don't end up taking!

maybe throw in some toys to entertain them... it might help to distract them...

Water water water water (for the kitties and you) and toilet paper if YOU have to make pitstop, pepper spray, ice, sandwiches, diet pepsi, music you like, comfy clothes, veggie snacks, snacks/treats for the kitties.

can we come along?

One of those water bottles that they can lick a drop at a time is very helpful. I don't remember what they are called, but they are like the ones in a hamster cage. They can have water and not make a mess. I went from Missouri to Georgia with 3 kitties in carriers and had no spilled water.

Good idea! I imagine I can get one at any pet store?

I would make anything you are introducing be pretty scent free. There is already going to be a stress level in the car and you don't want to add to it.

When I have to travel in the summer with dogs in the car I take an extra set of keys, so that when I have to stop for the restroom I can leave the A/C running. I park in the shade with the windows open just a crack, the A/C running and the doors locked, so no-one can just open the car & steal the animals. I never leave them for more than a minute or two, though, in case the engine stops or something - the inside of a car can heat up fast!
