My 3 month old kitten has recently (two days ago and again today) stepped in his own poop in the litter box and gotten some in between his back toes. He already sort of sucks at cleaning himself and my other cat has to finish the job most of the time, so he walks around for hours smelling like poop. There are two litterboxes in my house for two cats (I'm getting another one, so please don't mention I need one for every cat, + 1. I know already). Well, he just pees in the one in my bedroom, and he has never stepped in that mess.
His routine when he uses the box is to do his business, then walk sort of a semi-circle around his mess, turn around and start covering.
The box where he steps in his poop is one of those standard petco extra large boxes, while the box he pees in and manages to NOT step in his mess is less than half that size (this one is getting moved slowly into the laundry room since I only kept it in my room because of introductions). I've had him about a month, and these were the first two incidents of this. He has always had a problem with a little piece getting stuck, so I've had to baby wipe him before, but never with actually stepping in it. Is he just being a clumsy little kitten? I would prefer to not have to give him a bath or wipe fervently between his back toes every couple of days.
